I don't think either type of relationship is always wrong as long as they met when they were both adults. Just testing logic people use.

Many people claim age gap relationships are wrong even if the two met when both of them were adults. Even with no grooming involved, people still claim the power imbalance makes it wrong.

But what if an average-income person who's 30 years old dates a 30YO making 1-2M a year?

I don't see how it's better in terms of power imbalance.

People bring up that a 35 year old might be more mature than a 25 year old, but...

  1. A 35 year old who even wants to seriously date a 25 year old (not just have fun) can be quite immature or stunted herself/himself in some ways.
  2. A man/woman who makes millions is typically savvier and more disciplined and worldly than even someone making six figures their age. They're generally a more competent adult according to society, even compared to most of their age cohort.

There's the added threat that the wealthy person can blackball the person they're dating and make life very hard for them after a bad breakup. They also have the money to hire the best lawyers after a divorce and make sure they don't see their kids. In extreme cases, they have the money and power to have them killed and get away with it if they're Bezos or royal family rich, even if the other has a decent amount of money. That's far from the same level of power an average person has due to being older than their partner they met as an adult.

  1. My final point is the age gap can actually be tilted in favor of the younger adult if they're dating a lonely geriatric who's not as sharp as they used to be. The power dynamic then shifts in favor of the person who's closer to peak mental sharpness and peak physical fitness.
