There's nothing wrong with wanting to be taken to a restaurant on the first date. If you want to date me, I actually expect a restaurant or a nice event that I'm into. Restaurants are generally a safe option for us ladies, its a public place, compared to walk dates or Netflix and chill. Restaurants allow you to both sit down and give you about an hour of time to actually talk to each other face to face and get to know each other.

A respectable man should be suggesting a restaurant first date. It gives him a chance to impress her. It also gives him the opportunity to plan the date and dress up. On the other hand, us ladies tend to get dressed up anyways even pickmes wear nice outfits and get all done up to meet at a field. A restaurant is like a security deposit it shows that he is more interested in getting to know me and the meal helps to make it worthwhile for my time and effort to get that more pricey outfit on, do my nails, do my makeup, do my hair, moisturize, shave my legs, and wear those heels. Sometimes if even be washing my car before a first date so if they see me parking it looks super clean! It shows me hes more serious about a relationship rather than some f boy meeting in a field or dumpy bar or mcdonalds.

Anyone thats so scared to drop $50 or $100 on the first date can miss me with that bs. I have friends and a sister that are down to hangout at mcdonalds, go on walks, and get coffee with. Any men I've gone on walk/fast food/ drink "dates" with for the first date were the ones that never took me to restaurants or events or did anything nice for me anyways. Theyd ignore valentines day, Christmas, and my birthday! Mcdonalds/coffee with a guy is only acceptable when you have an established relationship and let's say he took you to the beach and you want a cold soda or a cone, and its one of the only places open, then mcdonalds is fine. Maybe you're studying or working late and he brings you coffee. Then that's nice. We don't do low effort dates!!!

I agree that people should show some appreciation when someone does something for them, it's essential in a relationship and I don't think anyone in FDS wouldn't show appreciation, it's polite as a minimum. However the way he is phrasing this makes it seem as if you do things for your SO in order to get affection/sex. I've had impossible crushes before and I wanted to do things for them regardless of whether they loved me back or not. Simply because you want to see the other person happy.
