You responded honestly, then they reacted. What you should take away from this situation has nothing to do with gender, it has to do with common sense and decency. We all get mad, but if we're decent, compassionate human beings then we'll wait until we've calmed down before responding. Those who aren't react immediately.

This is the easy part. The hard part comes when people from that group of 30 approach you on their own time to ask about the specifics.

Be patient, be calm, be kind, don't bullshit - be willing to admit you don't know or you're wrong, and respond - don't react.

As a lady, I think what you did was both courageous and fucking awesome. Not many people would ever stand up for what's right and just let people have their opinions. This is an interesting point I've often found myself in trouble for. And I'm not talking specifically about 'doing things' for women in general, but just the concept of respect.

My argument is that I do not have unbridled respect for women based purely on their sex, but rather a common level of respect until greater respect from the individual has been earned. This doesn't seem to go down very well, but in reality, what else should anybody expect?

It is no different to trust. Most of the women I have dated as well as had serious relationships with seem to be under the misapprehension that they are entitled to uninhibited levels of trust, regardless of their behaviour. But again, my argument is that people lend a certain level of trust to others until a greater level of trust is earned. I expect nothing more than this, and often from women men can't even expect this much.

Frankly, when women complain about this, they can collectively go and fuck themselves. It is common practice for women to brand all men as being lying, cheating bastards, regardless of an individual's actual behaviour. And the notion that women give men an even basic level of respect would now be seen as being hilariously naive and idealistic.

So, I think you might have a real problem with semantics. Your phrase "I refuse to respect you because you have a vagina," has an entirely different meaning than what you intended to write. You should have said some thing like "I refuse to give respect based on gender" or similar. Instead your sentence read; "I don't respect you because you're a woman" and are now confused why people de-friended you. Most people realize that the context would alter the meaning for the most part.

You should have been able to express your opinion without resorting to words like "bitch" or "vagina".

Also OP, how did you form your argument? I would have just said that chivalry and other forms of positive discrimination have been shown to be very damaging to the rights of both women and men. (It reinforces the men="protector/agressive", women="frail/passive" gender roles, which are harmful to both genders.) But it looks like it carried on for awhile.

I’m sorry that this happened to you OP. But as a member of a social movement, I think you (and many other MRA’s) need to step back and rethink what kinds of language are acceptable to use.
