Female intrasexual competition is why women seem to be inherently dishonest about looks; maybe about most things on PPD as well.

A woman will say a dude is ugly who she knows is out of her league, just because she knows she has no chance with him. How many times have I heard a woman say an objectively attractive man is ugly for no reason other than she can't have him? Men don't do this.

Can we men even tell what an attractive man is? Most of the time when straight men talk about a guy being good looking, we just find him cool looking. Hunter eyes, cool beard, abs etc.

We judge certain guys as "ugly" when they don't have certain "cool" features. In reality, we don't know what makes an attractive man. Only women can answer that

When we see: "Ugly guy, hot girl", we get surprised. But it's because we aren't attracted to men, but are attracted to women. So of course we see the woman as hot, as we find most women hot. Not all guys have the "cool" features, and that shouldn't matter because maybe women don't find those "cool" features as what makes or breaks attraction

So my point is, maybe how we men perceive our own looks is not what women perceive. We need to recognize the pattern of what type of men women are attracted to

Usually rich, high status and having an abundance of women. You see both "cool" and "uncool" guys with women of the same hotness level.

So attraction for women cannot be determined from how we men perceive the looks of our own gender

What's the phenomena with women who are like 4-5-6s to make tiktok videos where they act as though they're hot enough to have toxic standards like a 10? Any man doing this would get (rightfully) obliterated but for women it's like a regular occurrence.

Even if women did care about personality (unlikely), logistically they still have too many options to be able to get to know all of them. The only way women can narrow this group down in a timely fashion is prioritizing by looks.

Gym buddy being chatted up by two teenage girls (we were about 21 at that point) on the treadmill
Best friend who had a woman he had met up with two times before drive him and his friends, including me, around whenever he asked
College bro and me sat at a table, two girls came over and invited him and only him to one of the girl's birthday party although we both didn't really know them

The idea that looks are subjective is one of the biggest lies people here try to tell. I could go into more detail about why looks are obviously not subjective but instead I want to share my theory as to how other subjective elements of overall attraction work and why they give the illusion that looks are subjective. Overall attraction is an equation that works like this:

1: Objective facial beauty. This is the total pool of attractive people and it's a range from cute to hot. At the bottom end of the range is what I'll call the "cutoff" and that's something that can vary from person to person which we'll get into later. The upper end of the range doesn't vary, just where the cutoff is.

2: Negative subjective preferences. I'll call these "prejudices". These are the things that make you not attracted to an otherwise objectively good looking person. For example, maybe you don't like people with blonde hair, certain ethnicities, people with tattoos, people who are too short, people who are overly muscular, whatever. Subtract these "ick" factors from the total pool of objectively attractive people.

3: Positive subjective preferences. I'll call these "fetishes". Maybe you really like people with tattoos, or lots of muscles, big butts, extreme height, or certain ethnicities to the point that you overrate their objective looks. This can take people lower in the range of attractive people and boost them up or it can take people who would have otherwise been below your cutoff and add them into your pool of acceptably attractive people.

4: Reality, settling, compromise, or "who you can get". Some people are attractive enough that they can easily get together with people at the top of the attractive range, while others can't so they're forced to push their cutoff down. So a woman might be more attracted to men who are in shape but she herself isn't and her partner is chubby, but she still is reasonably attracted to him and learns to be okay with it.

So here's the thing, a lot of times when we talk about people's standards and expectations being too high or people settling and compromising, we think about this idea of shifting where your cutoff is. But I think the best way to actually increase your pool of suitable people is to make changes in 2 & 3. You can expand your horizons by letting go of prejudices. For example I saw a woman doing standup who talked about how dating short guys was getting a hot guy at a discount. Or over time and with more experience you can develop new fetishes and expand your tastes that way.

I know this is completely anecdotal but I've never seen a relationship where the man was significantly less attractive than the woman and she didn't openly disrespect him.

I've also never seen a relationship where the man was significantly younger (10+ years) and it didn't end up in divorce or him cheating on her.

Money, status blah blah only mattered when women didn't have jobs. Even tho they still matter it's not more important than physical attraction at all.

Looks are basically what matters, with money/status being a distant secondary factor.

I went to a friend's wedding this weekend and most of the guests who attended were couples (90%+). If you lined up the attendees on opposite sides of the room based on their gender, ordered both lines solely by any objective measure of attractiveness and had the lines walk towards each other, no-one would need to divert very far from walking in a completely straight line to find their partner/spouse.

Where there was any significant difference in attractiveness between the couples (and I'm taking 1-2 "points" here, nothing extreme), the man would always - without exception - be a high earner. I'd go so far as to say if you applied some kind of "earnings coefficient" to the male line and then reordered it, the two lines would match up almost person for person.

And yet there are those who say personality is mainly what matters...

Looks are what really matter, ask anyone who's lost a significant amount of weight. Nobody gives a fuck about anything else, whatever traits they claim to like. They'll just say you have them if they like your looks.it doesn't matter what your personality is like. I've had conversations with women where they clearly have no interest in what I have to say, they're just waiting on Mr to stop talking so we can make out. Before I lost weight it was largely the same, except they were waiting for me to go away instead.

Your physical appearance is the most important thing about you. Whatever you've accomplished in your life the time would have been better spent in the gym. If you're ever offered a chance to toss your PhD to be reborn as a 10/10 it's definitely worth it. Some chads jawline is more impressive than your 13 businesses.

The gap between how hot women are treated compared to just above average and good looking women is much smaller than hot guys and they’re just above average peers. So I can totally see a scenario where a girl who is basically a 7 thinks she’s hot based off male attention, particularly online.The guy who is a 7 thinking he’s hot is seen as basically delusional though barring exigent circumstances.

I think a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself the following question when you're out and you see an attractive person:

Take stock of their natural beauty

Consider their fashion sense and style

How well groomed they are, etc.

Would that person be proud to be seen with me by their side?
