I can't find it right now but on the most recent public polls done on legalizing prostitution in America, the majority of women were against it while the majority of men were for it. Regardless of political affiliation.

And keep in mind these surveys were done on the assumption that prostitution would be legalized and regulated to prevent abuse, human trafficking, etc.

It all comes down to the pussy cartel. Women don't want to lose the power they have. I know it and you know it.

I don't think prostitution makes as much of a difference as people on here seem to think. It's already pretty much legal via escorts, massage parlors, sugar dating and going to other countries. Men want someone who actually is attracted to them and the emotional connection isn't there with a prostitute. That's why there are stories where a guy hires a prostitute to pretend to be his girlfriend or something.

Maybe making it legal would drive down prices and make it safer or something but that's about it. It would not affect the AF/BB dynamic. Maybe it would help some virgins forget about it and focus on other things without worrying about the law.

It's a law that's there to help prevent prostitution, whilst taking care not to criminalise people forced into the trade.

Nobody is saying only men should be punished, in fact if a woman were to be paying a male prostitute for sex, she would be the one getting punished, not him.

The logic is that while plenty of people are trafficked, forced and blackmailed into prostitution, the same cannot be said for anyone paying for sex.

So this law is definitely not a "gender war", it's simply there to crack down on trafficking without punishing any victims in the process.

Countries with legalized prostitution generally see an increase in human trafficking, child trafficking, and sex abuse according to Harvard international development society. So it is a genuine issue. Why is it so hard for men to admit that prostitution is often tied to harm lol

It's entirely just to protect women from abuse. It lets woman who are victims of other crimes while tricking come forward without fear of prosecution. It's literally just "we can't stop it, so be safe while doing it."

It has nothing to do with men. Not everything is about them.

I live in the Netherlands. Prostitution here is legal. From what I hear Dutch men do not approach women like ever. Women rarely wear make up, but there are some that are quite hot. It looks like women have to do a lot more of the work and pursuing.

Where I'm from, prostitution is legal. And there are a million things that could make the work safer. But this is not the way.

Is this another way to take men's power away?

Before I consider it "men's power", I need to work out whether it's okay to buy another person's body on such an intimate level, especially when her financial well-being (or desperation) always seems to be a factor in prostitution.

Even trying to compare it to slavery just adds to the confusion.

It puts my concern for men's sexual gratification at a fairly low priority though.

People forget that many laws are for show and they exist to appeal to voters and not to solve actual problems.

The idea that sex exists for the benefit of the man is has been held by many people from both sides of the debate. Pro-sex work men think that sex work is bad for women but it's up to them to decide whether to do it or not. Anti-sex work women think that sex work is bad for women, but that they should be protected from it. The later is the basis for the nordic model.

I believe that prostitution should be legal and its prohibition regardless of model is blatant hypocrisy.

honestly i find people who use prostitutes disgusting, but this isnt an effective or appropriate counter, just pushes the market more underground, my preferred solution would honestly be making it fully legal but so social frowned upon that a person caught engaging in it would never find a job again .

They're convinced that sex work existing is what makes men sexist. These people consider men who see sex workers disgusting and frankly I don't think it even occurs to them that those men could be their own husbands and boyfriends. So sex workers are not competition so much as helpless brainwashed victims who are also somehow entirely responsible for their sexist boss at their office jobs. Yes, this is very dumb.

What actually happens under Nordic model is that clients get stuck with community service or taking a class at most. Meanwhile, actual sex workers get evicted from their homes and charged with pimping for stuff like sharing a hotel room or doing a doubles session. They also face more violence because clients are too nervous to screen, which makes things much easier for predators. I'm pro-decrim but clients are pretty irrelevant to my reasons for that.

An awful model If you ask me, just makes women in even more danger. This isn’t the way to make prostitution safer at all.

If anything it should be legal, decriminalised & regulated. Strict background controls on the girls, regular check ups by the government too see if they are ok, safe brothels with panic buttons & therapy for those who undergo trauma (all of them let’s b real)

I find the idea of selling sex icky, personally I’m viscerally disgusted by johns & the girls. It doesn’t match my idea of sex at all. But ppl will do it regardless and we should make sure they are safe.

With the exception of license regulations, I don't understand how this fits into existing laws and torts - how can you have a system where it's illegal to buy something but not sell it? Invariably the seller requires prosecution too, surely a small fine should be applied.

Don’t know that it’s specifically to take men’s power away. But it is a strong appeal to some arbitrary moral standard, and few (if any) politicians are willing to publicly support legalization of prostitution.

I don’t like it. I’m pro-freedom and pro-bodily autonomy. Women and men should do what they want with their bodies. If they want to provide sexual services and charge for it, they should be able to do so. I prefer the German and the Dutch model, where prostitution is legal.

The only people who are big proponents of this model include middle aged white TERFs and old white male lawmakers. Very few if any human rights activists and sex workers are supporting these laws or proposals.

At least these laws only make prostitution super taboo and does nothing to stop human trafficking. At worse it'll be a total failure in making sex work and prostitution even more dangerous. These laws don't stop sex work nor minimize it; they only push them under ground.
