What I'm wondering is if these men wouldn't also decline to marry and have kids even if they could. Like why is that going to be enough carrot to get back in the yoke and grind (to mix a metaphor). Women have decided the modern nuclear family may not be ideal for all women. Even if they have the choice to stay at home or work, they may feel claustrophobic about it and nope out. Are you so sure modern men aren't coming to the same decision?

Part of the equation may be that jobs also suck more, and rather than think "that's fair compensation for my labor" men are thinking "that's a horrible way to live life".

i remember reading that japans young population in general were leaving the workforce not because of dating issues but because japans corporate culture is cancer, not to mention the cost of having a kid is extremely high to the point not many can afford it even if they workd hard everyday so why bother? i ve been in corporate enviorenments too and i hated it with every single fraction of my soul, i just want to get paid for the job i do got damn it, screw you and your "not a team player, where is your passion, loyalty". Anyways, japan doesnt pressures men to marry and have relationships in the same way american society does, so no, relationships nor male alienation had nothing to do with it, perhaps there will be a time where we will see the effects of what you mention taking place in american society, i like to call it the future mental health crisis, but the example that you provided is totally different.

I got a job in an industry I feel passionate about because I enjoy the work and I like having money. I also like being independent and being able to support myself. If men aren't willing to work to support themselves and be independent, that says a lot about why so many men are single and sexless.

I've been single for years I don't date and have no interest in marriage or children...but I work 80+ hours a week...

I enjoy my work but I also have goals and plans so I need money.

I work so I have money so I have a home so I have a car gas for the car I also have an SUV it takes almost 200 USD to fill the tank.

I work so I can eat waygu beef steak with truffle sauce and have caviar and wine and some fancy cheese that's 10USD an ounce.

I want to by a boat I don't cate if a woman never steps foot on it and I don't plan to invite any but I want a boat because I enjoy because being at see with no land no person in sight just me and nature.

The framing of this post is utterly ridiculous. Yes, modern dating for men now means having more than a pulse and a job. If that sets the bar too high for some that they check out completely from dating, good riddance.

There are enormous amounts of factors from economic to technological that are responsible for why we see younger people having the dating experience they are today. Making this whole situation out to be essentially a plea for women to go back to the 1950s is insanity.

I’m a little surprised as I was unaware of the masses of men proactively and unsuccessfully seeking committed relationships, marriage and children. I thought you all wanted easy casual sex with lots of women and were upset about Chad etc.

Makes it easier for opportunities for those that want to make something of themselves: forces the workforces to start to have to hire more women (work needs to get done if they are willing to punch a clock, then get them a time card). I think this is an unhealthy way to look at the world.

Say for the sake of argument no woman will ever love me and I will never have kids. I still have value. I still have skills, an intellect, interests and hobbies, etc. If I knew I would never have a romantic relationship I would still want to do things.

Don't get me wrong. I want love, and even children someday. But even without those things, a man has value, has things he wants to do, etc. Working hard makes them more possible. Of course there's a conversation to be had about unfair wages and whatnot but that's not the issue at hand.

I feel there is more of an impact for men constantly being berated as being misogynistic and systemically racist. They’re tired of being called privileged when colleges and companies say they meed to hire a female or minority only because of quotas. I have personally been told this when i was hiring in a very large company.

It comes to more women than men attending college, and still the message is not changed.

Anyway, don't see why that's such a bad thing, for the individual man. If you don't want to work hard, pursue higher studies or work long hours, then don't. Just relax and enjoy life as a childfree wife free financially well off dude. It's entirely sensible. Simply.

In regards to the military not being able to find recruits and maintain them it's mostly due to the obesity epidemic, drug and criminal history, and people leaving due to the strong private economy.

I don't know whether it's socialized in us (men) or were born with it but many men myself included desire to be wanted by others and relied upon, call it narcissism or whatever but I think it's a real issue when we have a lot of guys who aren't needed on the individual level but are still needed on a societal level, maybe this generation it will change and women will be the net increases in tax revenue and men will be negative but it has not happened yet. Also, I still plan on doing my career and everything mostly to keep me from getting bored, but I might retire early or something if I don't have any dependents then you have someone who may have worked from 25-65 working from 25-45 than just coasting off investments and a pension taking a lot more out than putting in.

I would wager is what you're seeing is more people investing more into markets and retiring young, as well as an increase in SAHDS, and people who started their own businesses over the pandemic. Because people are starting families later, they are more financially secure.

More should motivate men than just that. Especially since women are still very traditional with their preferences of a partner of equivalent or greater education and income, men dropping out will just create a more viscious cycle.

That said, imo the government has really dropped the ball when it comes to areas like male education attainment, mental health, and workforce participation. Because even if they genuinely think it's men's fault, a good portion of 50% of your population falling behind should have a bit more "holy shit" fervor to it than what we currently see. Look at how big of a push there is to get more women into STEM. I'm not saying it should be one or the other, but it'd be nice if the government cared.

I've heard this all before many times. "If men don't get wives and kids then society will collapse." It sounds like wives and kids are society's ransom payment to get men to do something productive.

It's also kind of a messed up way of looking at society and men in general. As if men are just these mindless beasts that need to be tamed with the prospect of wife and kids to keep our technological civilization running, and if men don't get exactly what they want then the whole thing comes crumbling down. Never mind all the men who choose not to have kids or are happy while single, or choose their careers based on their own desires.

Perhaps the main reason why men are checking out of the workforce is that the workforce is garbage. Maybe rents and mortgages are too high and wages are too low, and the boss keeps asking for more so that shareholders and CEOs can make more money. Maybe they're disillusionment isn't connected to their relationship status.

And perhaps men are letting themselves go because the modern diet is absolutely terrible. Maybe people are eating worse food because they can't afford better food.

And isn't it kind of messed up to say that men will only be healthy if there's some kind of external benefit for them? Why not be healthy for the sake of being healthy? And why is it anyone else's problem if men don't see the benefits in their own health? And how many men let themselves go when they do achieve a relationship?

And you'll have to show me where in history a society ever alienated it's men on the basis of gender and not, say, class. Thinking back to my history courses it seemed that men ran every society.

I’m a bit worried here. Women and children don’t always have to be the motive… you could go into a career field because you genuinely enjoy what you do. I’m about to graduate college and I a lot of the jobs I want in the future involve risking my life/livelihood. Why do I do it? I see no kids in my future for my own personal reasons, but I do it because I genuinely want it. Will it bring me a nice paycheck? Yes, but I see myself being fulfilled by my career instead of something I have to slave over to take care of a family. And no, I’m not a man and yes, I know my aspirations aren’t “feminine enough” for a lot of you in the comments. Not going to have that conversation but I’m open to speaking about this as a whole.
