I need some input on what a Nice Guy is.

I think what is considered a Nice Guy (not a nice guy) is either misunderstood or cynically reframed. But I may be mistaken and just projecting because I don‘t know all the experiences of women and none of my male friends matched the description of a Nice Guy. So I only have myself as a reference.

When I was much younger, let‘s say before I got into my twenties, I didn‘t know how to flirt and I was very inhibited when it came to expressing my sexuality. I couldn‘t wrap my head around how exactly I would go about developing a sexual relationship with girls. So what I did was just build a friendly relationship with girls, I essentially did the same I did when talking to guys, and I thought with time girls would build a stronger bond with me and they would eventually fall in love with me. I wasn‘t nice to get sex, but I didn‘t show any sexual or romantic intent either because I didn‘t know how or was too inhibited to do so. So the only thing I did was being friendly and hope something would come out of it. And that sounds eerily similar to the Nice Guy description. Another thing that the Nice Guy is criticized for is confessing his love to a girl who he was friends with. This is criticized because according to women they feel betrayed. “They thought they had a friend but he just wanted to fuck her.” Like damn, I thought this was a surprisingly cynical interpretation when I first heard that. I didn‘t get why being friends and then eventually confessing your feelings was perceived this way but it sure as hell kept me from ever doing that. So, I was in a sort of limbo where I didn‘t know how to flirt or was too inhibited to express my sexuality, and when things weren‘t developing as I imagined they would, confessing was off the table as an option. It‘s not that I was nice to get sex, but of course I would be nice toward a girl I liked and did hope that this would lead to us developing a relationship, because other than being nice I wasn‘t able to do anything else given my ineptitude and fear.

So, all of this takes a close resemblance of the Nice Guy stereotype. Was I a Nice Guy or not?
