For whatever reason I see men on this sub claiming that women do not contribute financially in any capacity whatsoever (household expenses, dates, even gifts), even within relationships and marriages. Personally I do not think that’s true given that most households where I live are dual income, and it seems most couples in my demographic (late 20s, early 30s, young professionals, American) split the cost of dates and pool finances together when married and buy each other things. However I would like men of PPD to weigh in.

So, married men or men in relationships, please elaborate on whether your wife/gf contributes to your relationship.

Please include:

  • What region or culture you are from (United States, Europe, Asia, Western, Eastern, etc.)
  • Does your wife/gf contribute to the household expenses? What does this split look like?
  • Does your wife/gf contribute to planned dates or the overall date fund? Have you ever split the cost of dates? Has she ever paid for date night?
  • Does your wife/gf buy you birthday or other holiday gifts? Has she ever bought you things randomly like a tshirt she thought would look good on you, or a morning coffee, or something else?

For those of you whose wives/gfs do not contribute to any of these things and it does not bother you, did you want to her to contribute to these things? Does this matter to you? Why or why not?

And an additional follow up: if you are someone whose wife/gf does not do this and it bothers you, why did you marry her? Why did you stay with her? Is this a point of resentment in your relationship? How has this affected your relationship?
