No, but you can confirm the result with other studies such as speed dating sessions, real life mixers, etc., and if you get the same result (you do) then you know that it's real and not some photo-based effect.

So modern western society has now developed a serious problem with lots of young men left out entirely. Societies in history have dealt with this issue in various ways, from pederasty in ancient Greece to female genital manipulation in West African societies to extreme oppression of women in Muslim societies. For my OKCupid profile photos. I recruited a female friend who I knew had a good sense of style and was a hobbyist photographer whose work was good enough to pass for professional. We picked out multiple outfits, and spent the afternoon traveling around town to find good spots to shoot. We took casual shots, "modeling" shots, and "action" shots of me playing two of my guitars. The only Photoshopping I did after the fact was to erase a hole in my shoe that I didn't know was there at the time.
None of it mattered. My matches did not increase in the slightest.

On one hand I get that men aren't socialized like that. On the other once I swapped to the friends tab of Bumble and every third guy had professionally taken photos by local landmarks in carefully chosen business casual, so I get the sense its not that rare for a guy on a dating app to already do this stuff and I get the sense that most of the guys trying hard are usually on the short side and of demographics that don't do well on dating sites.

Sorry to say but getting professionally done photos is not a guarantee to get matches, plenty of men have done so and don't get matches. It's ok to to come to the conclusion that women are mostly at fault for this issue by being extremely picky. It doesn't make them bad people, just normal flawed humans.

Sure you can extrapolate it. If anything, OLD puts the 20/80 differentiation in even starker contrast.

1) The entire point of OLD is to benefit women by helping them sort through men extremely quickly and without actually having to interact with any of those men. Women can easily figure out top 20% by looks alone.

2) None of the photographic suggestions you have for men will put a bottom 80%er into the top 20%. As a man, you're either top 20%, or you aren't, and chances are, you aren't.

You have a 1 in 5 chance of being a 20%er. You have a 4 in 5 chance of being an 80%er. Photos won't make the difference.

3) Women are the ones who determine top 20%, so there's nothing men can do or not do to change that or affect it.

4) If we can't extrapolate average male attractiveness from OLD, why are women using OLD to determine which men are attractive and which aren't? Because that's exactly what they're doing - making split second decisions on which men are worth it and which men aren't, which men are attractive enough to pursue further and which men aren't.

The picture quality doesn't matter. Women respond to a vibe, and a picture can't transmit a vibe. Dating apps allow only for men to get an impression, because men do respond to looks. It gives women no way of knowing what they would think of the guy if they met him in person. True, women discuss those profiles as if they can really know anything from them and as if looks is what interests them, but this is only because they were told by feminism that the sexes are identical and thus that women have a male sexuality which is focused on looks (what feminists argued is that men put women under a pressure of expectations and so feminists attempted to put men under a similar pressure by trying to convince women to expect men to look a certain way, and women try to satisfy this feminist expectation, resulting in nothing but frustration - this is not what truly interests women, they are sensing a vibe and are focused on success in a man).

Bottom line, it has nothing to do with pics quality. Women simply can't retrieve from pictures the information that interests them - the vibe. Instead of talking about this inherent problem of apps, women try to conform to feminist premises ("the sexes are identical so we also care mostly about looks"). This is self-deception. Men will see that a woman is beuatiful regardless of picture quality.

And, most importantly, because of this entire situation, and because feminism forbade flirting in the actual world by calling all of it "harassment" thus pushing everyone into apps, men are really frustrated that they can't convey their vibe through an app, that they have no way of showing a woman that they are what she's looking for. It drives men crazy. Women are not aware of any of this, and don't know why they "can't find" - it's forbidden to explain the reason and to inform women about why they are struggling with relating to pictures and how they came to believe that they are supposed to relate to pictures (because explaining this entails criticizing feminism, which is a holy religion and the penalty for criticizing it is a ban for life). Just bring back flirting. Women need that because it's the only way they can feel the vibe, men need it because that's the only way they can convey who they are. Stop calling everything "harassment" and pushing everyone into apps. It's making both sexes miserable. Both sexes depend on this form of communication, pictures can't replace that.

I have decent phots, a thought out bio, and I can hold a conversation over the initial messaging period.

I also have better looking mates who struggle with online dating, despite them being taller and having better jobs then me.

I disagree. While I do think angle frauding can make a difference (my picture is evidence of it), a face is a face and you can’t fix everything with it. Nice pictures of an average guy are just photos of an average guy, they aren’t going to make you attractive. Plus at best it’ll get you matches, I got plenty of matches on dating apps but never got the forward, sexual messages actual attractive men get. Nor did I get any sex from dating apps.

Also men taking selfies looks kinda cringe (as much as I have to resort to it). Women taking them is standard.

You can tell of a man is a man even in a static photo. I've shown pictures of my friends to various GF (my friends live in a different country) and they can tell to a T who is the wanna be and who the real player is (one of my friends changed women like he changes his socks). All of this from a photo. So it's not just the looks, it's the vibe you give off. Vibe cannot be faked.
