Do this for yourself too! You deserve to treat yourself as well. Buy yourself those nice flowers, use the nice candle and lush products you’ve been hoarding ! Cook a nice meal / takeaway and dress up! & when you meet that special person who will do this for you, remember you are also important and special to yourself !

OKay, so I don't want to be a debbie downer, but my ex did this, and he was horrible.

He was a wonderful man in terms of doing things for me. Always had surprises. Always planned cute dates. Made cute breakfasts. Planned surprise parties for me. Always did cute shit.

But he could never keep a job and would verbally and emotionally abuse me. Every time he was threatened by anything (real or perceived-aka a threat to his ego) he would turn on me like a wolf on a sheep. It was this constant "hot/cold" that kept me staying and left me confused.

So yes, while being treated like that is nice, ladies, that is not the ONLY thing that constitutes HVM.

this is nice to see! and it doesn't take much, really...anyone with empathy and who wants to make another person happy could do it!

I remember always doing nice things like these for LVM and there was zero reciprocation - at first, I saw no improvement so I obviously tried harder (don't do it!) and bent myself backwards for a person who wouldn't even bring me a glass of water when sick. it really isn't that much, just ordinary caring, even during the corona. and you don't have to be a chef to follow a recipe video or even make a fancy omelette.

So lovely! It was my birthday two days ago but I was feeling very rough from having the covid jab. The HVM in my life made me breakfast in bed - pastries, cold cuts, cheese and fresh fruit salad, bought me presents in bed, set up a day of 'feel good' films and board games, them in the evening made me steak and salad and organised a Skype call with friends and birthday cake. It wasn't prosecco for breakfast but it was exactly what I needed :) Being treated like we matter is the least we deserve!
