Men with tit for tat mentally will always be petty, misery, spitefully keep score and always try to take more than they give. Even if it's exactly 50/50 in the beginning, that's gonna go out the window once kids enter the picture. You want someone with a generous heart. Most women already have a decent sense of fairness ,when not already overly giving, we don't need to be lectured on doing more for relationships.

What I learned about men like this is that this is misguided resource guarding against a person in their life that seriously does not deserve it.

I can do all those things alone just fine , the thought of letting a man in my life to regulate my labor and money to show me how love and respect works is low key raising some abusive red flags.

These days I’m more open about expressing that I would like a man who cherishes and provides for me. Women who are independent and can stomach the veneer of this being a fair “partnership” are on the road to ruin.

money is cute because you only work a 9 to 5, you get paid holidays and you have a weekend where you can do whatever you want for 2 whole days. if you spend 5 minutes on the r/breakingmom community you'll quickly realise the husbands expect their wives to be on call 24/7, no matter if they've just given birth and the men 'need dinner because he cant cook' or men leaving the house in a tantrum because they had a fight with their 12yo daughter. men are terrified of being financially exploited, they dont want golddiggers and all that other nonsense but if you told a man to carry out unpaid emotional and physical labour he would have a meltdown

Ugh, my ex was like this. He really wanted to move in together. When we discussed what we would do financially, he wanted to split the rent and utilities, and then switch off month to month for groceries. If we got married we’d have our own car notes. I was ok with split rent at the time, but switching on groceries is stupid considering he was very conservative on his budget and I was more liberal (I like to cook and experiment). He was also incredibly stingy on going out. He’d “treat” me to a nice place but would try to tell me what I could and couldn’t get. Yet if I treated him, I let it be known it was a special occasion and to get what he wants. And he would.

I know this is mainly about food lol but it goes to show how stingy he is and how poor my boundaries were on that. Funny thing is he came from a wealthy family (more like new money), so I was smart enough to pay attention to their tactics to stay rich. You’re cheap af.

In the past I used to think this was a good idea but at this point of my life I am like why even bother being in a relationship if this is going to be a transactional type of business, like why keep counts whether I did this or not. I think it's fair to pick up the minor expense if he paid the major expense. Snacks at the movies are a decent example.

That said, it still looks cheap as fuck and my husband would never ask me to (even when dating).

Look... if we are hiring housekeepers and such? Yeah sure. If we BOTH do equal amounts of housework REGULARLY? Yeah sure. But if I’m maintaining the house, the groceries, the appointments, when bills are due and where, AND working full time? Hell no. I’m already working two jobs there. He gets to cover the bills.
