I'm here from r/all, and this is a seriously intellectually lazy point of view.

I mean, let's set aside the false equivalencies, the theoretical maximum penalties for breaking a law which there is no evidence that anyone has ever been convicted of breaking let alone having paid, and the idea that despite the lack of any evidence that any man ever had to do even two of the things on this list a woman must do all of them in order to be on the same page.

So, skipping all of that, I actually wonder if the dumb fucker who made this doesn't realize that the selective service act predates women's right to vote. It's not like women voted to make only men subject to the draft. Men are responsible for the draft. There hasn't been a draft in 44 years, and when there was, women occupied between 8 and 16 seats in both houses of Congress combined.

Also, this seems like an attack more than a comment on equality. No women alive today made any decision that allows them to be absolved from a draft. they aren't responsible for that. Men decided that women shouldnt be drafted.

lasty, when in gods name would we need another draft? this isnt really relevant. godforbid a gigantic war occurs that necessitates a draft, but if that does occur, i seriously doubt we'll be in need of more infantry.

What I meant to question was if your going to protect women for their parental rights, men should be given them too. Or neither sex gets them at all. A women, even though she bears the child, is no more special than a man and shouldn't be treated as such.

I know of NO Woman who has served in the military who is Against the Draft of females for service. Not one. I served for 10 years. I'm for the draft, of both male and female (and I have a daughter and 2 sons). The only people whining are Neo-3rd wave feminists who think they're special snowflakes in Everything on the planet, not just military service. They're not against the draft...they're against military service, the military, miitary members (I've actually been called a 'baby killer' by a feminist), and anything else that vaguely "offends" their delicate sensibilities or "triggers" their PTSD from watching bad movies. The funny thing is the draft was instituted in a time when women were fighting for a lot of rights. It also was a time when women were seen as home makers and not equal. The draft is outdated and I think many including myself would be ok with updating it to include women. There were lawsuits against the US government because women wanted to fight on the front line and be allowed in infantry. Although I like this sub and even as a women agree that most things on here are correct or at least have a very valid point. I think this one may be a little off the mark. It's more of an outdated law than women trying to avoid it or women being hypocritical.

I agree that everyone physically able should be liable to register, regardless of sex but its hardly a massive pressing issue like equality of access to children on separation or criminal sentencing disparities. "Comfy fantasies," like registering for the draft is an effing hardship? Give me a break! There are almost 2 million women veterans in this country, and over 200,000 serving right now, and comprise 20% of Air Force personnel.

When women in the National Guard and in the Reserves were called up to go to the Iraq war, and to Afghanistan, no one gave a furry rat's ass about it - even if they were single and had kids at home.

I think if anyone has any "comfy fantasies" it's OP, implying that women are getting special treatment in return for getting treated like second class citizens in every aspect of life.

The military is a great place to pick up skills. Self defence, personal fitness, mechanical skills, etc. For those who don't want to fight you get to be a support trooper. If i lived in the state I wouldn't mind being drafted and becoming a mechanic like I was a couple of years ago. All I need to do is power wash the last deceased occupants of a vehicle, fix it up and put it back out on the front.

The US will never have another draft. Registering for Selective Service is as simple as filling out a form online. In some states, your even registered automatically.

This is plain stupid. Not from their perspective, but from ours.

Women give birth. They possess magic and they already give up at least a year of their lives to do that and that's assuming a career that can afford a daily maid (which assumes they want a career).

Which is expensive, because we want to at LEAST pay minimum wage. We want to hire registered American teenagers for the job and follow the rules, pay the taxes.

That being said, following that rule is hard, because now we assume that every female is able and willing to produce a child liable to military service. So....:

Make female draft mandatory, unless a birth plan is proposed (i.e. "child pops out in 2021, May (at the latest) or I serve in the military for X years") - They can either serve the draft right away or wait for the deadline, then choose to serve or do year of alternative service (in hospitals or retirement homes, see: "Zivildienst" in Germany). Financial Bonuses are paid depending on these factors.

Just a Brainwave.
