I was picking up an M&M McFlurry for my wife at McDonald’s. I get to the window, and there’s a very cute girl there. Now, I’m 33 and married. I’m not looking to pick up a girl from McDonald’s. And she wasn’t like some kind of crazy Goddess level beauty. She was just very cute, and maybe like 18-20.

In my mind, as the window opened, part of my brain was just ready to blurt out something like, “You’re too cute to be working here.” But the other part of my brain (the part that prevailed) was like, “Umm, no.” That’s all, just “Umm, no.”

At that moment, that was basically not even a summary of my thoughts. Those were my thoughts in their entirety. After the fact, however, I just started thinking about how ironic it was that a guy would literally self-censor himself from doing nothing more than just complimenting a girl he had zero intent or interest in going any further with.

As I thought back, I was like, the part of me that wanted to say something nice just wanted her to feel good about herself. She probably doesn’t hear any compliments during her shift, because people are probably afraid to say anything nice to her (customers and especially fellow employees). So, it would just make her day maybe 1% better.

The other part of my (again, all after the fact) was like, no. First of all, she would immediately interpret anything you said as you hitting on her. Secondly she would get gassed up, like, I got dudes hitting on me from the drivre-thru that’s how hot I am. So, just don’t.

Just got me thinking of all the small good things men stop themselves from doing towards women, because we don’t want them to think we’re hitting on them, and in turn, feel gassed up after the fact.

Another example:

I just recently drove by a construction 🚧 site. It was 97 degrees outside, but it was 11:30am and these 6 guys were working in the hot 🥵 sun AND 97 degree temperatures. I didn’t see any water around, and was like, “wow, that homeowner and whoever the GC is are fucking assholes.” I happened to have a 24 pack of Poland Spring bottles in my car (by mistake). So, I stopped my car and just gave the guys two bottles each.

Imagine if those construction laborers we women. And a guy stops his car, and starts walking towards them carrying water bottles. Would that ever happen? They probably wouldn’t even feel safe drinking the water.

Discuss away.
