It'd be a bit skeptical of the premise itself because I don't think it's necessarily that clear cut and they go over limitations in the article. Switzerland for instance has legalized prostitution but the end result is you have lots of young girls from Poland, Romania, Croatia, Latin America, SEA etc. Coming to work in Switzerland due to the absurd salaries they have, it's lucrative because they can earn a yearly salary in their home country in just a month or two in Switzerland, so the question becomes how voluntary is that? Could there be pressure or coercion involved in some cases? highly likely, there's a lot of shady stuff going on and there's a clear correlation between legalizing prostitution and human trafficking in Europe. But many studies have shown with increase in legal prostitution human trafficking increases. So it seems like they get bored of the legal stuff quickly but now you’ve taught them they can pay for way more and like any other products they’ll go for the cheapest option will fuels the human trafficking problem.

Capitalism always trends towards bringing the cheapest possible product regardless of human suffering.

And if you allow it to make sex a product. The cheapest product is always going to be female slaves.

So teaching a population sex can be a commodity will always go down the same route.

Even if this is replicable, you're saying that the solution is to channel urges into a different group of women (and if this is what rapists want, I certainly don't think you can make the "prostitution is fully consensual all the time and everyone knows it" argument) and a more disadvantaged group at that. If this is what went on I imagine you'd find the rates of violence against prostitutes at the time to be even worse than usual. That simply isn't good enough. Nobody needs to rape and people generally don't commit crimes because they need to.

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal, but the one time I've ever been propositioned on the street at night was in a country where sex work of all kinds excluding penetration is essentially legal and common. Like this man probably could've walked less than 10 min to an establishment filled with women who have opted into that occupation but still for whatever reason wanted the random woman on the street.

Unfortunately, risk and novelty seem to be major elements of human sexuality. For a guy who isn't used to casually seeing sex workers that might be really arousing and tantalizing in the short term. But it won't necessarily provide the same level of satisfaction forever. And then we're back to where we started.

Studies have actually shown incels are 3x less likely to commit rape than the average man.

Men who rape tend to have a high amount of sexual partners which makes sense. They're more accustomed to women wanting them which creates a higher ego, they're more aggressive and assertive, and they have a higher sex-drive. If a woman does reject him, and he has no other options, he might not take it well. Legalizing prostitution would give him another option though.

The writers of the original paper thought indoors prostitution had been legalized in 2003, so the decline in cases of rape they found took place between 2003 and 2009. However, prostitution had been legalized in 1980 so the potential impacts of the legalization were not actually captured by the original paper.

The original unpublished claims have received wide media coverage which have gone unexamined. This review finds errors in their analyses. One error is the date when prostitution was decriminalized in Rhode Island. Cunningham and Shah claim that prostitution was decriminalized in 2003. Our analysis finds the date of decriminalization of prostitution was 1980. The change in the start date of decriminalization significantly alters the analysis and the findings. Another error results from Cunningham and Shah using an outlier data point to define a period of analysis. The results of this review call into question the claims that the decriminalization of prostitution reduced rape and sexually transmitted disease.

It won’t stop at legal prostitution. You underestimate male fetishes. After say, a few years men will get bored of normal prostitution. They will begin to get a kick out of luring normal women to become prostitutes for them. The rapes will come back, after all, the rapes never disappeared because they were just transferred onto the prostitutes.

Alcohol is present in almost all assaults sexual assaults and rapes and murders.

For all we know people were just going to hookers instead of the bar and it's not the hookers but the not going to the bar that was the key variable. For all we know on a longer term basis these men would be both going to the bar and going to hookers.
