The truth is, guys are just as insecure as women are. We wish women would approach us, but it is expected for us to be “men” and do it ourselves because that’s the “manly” thing to do. I also believe that there are way less men hitting on women publicly than would be expected. I feel like most men have to be in a group and hyped up by their friends most of the time to approach a female, because it is not easy. If you get rejected, so what? There will for sure be times that you won’t get rejected and you might even stumble upon the one. Life is too short, so take every shot you got because you’ll never know if you don’t take it. I really wish I could take my own advice sometimes but I’m not strong enough. Be stronger than me, it’ll pay off eventually. Each time you do it, you will become stronger and become less afraid of rejection. Just don’t think about it too deeply because if that person rejects you without even giving you a chance to know them, why would you even want to be with someone like that? Just make sure to keep your expectations realistic! Everyone has a different type: beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I felt this way until I started initiating conversations way more often. Now guys will start talking to me all the time (though not usually the ones I’d seek out). Not sure what happened. I guess I became more approachable-looking? Maybe it’s true what they say about doing the thing you wish to see makes it show up in your world.

As a fellow girl who’s been in your shoes, I can tell you rn it might be confidence or perceived confidence that intimidates guys.

I had one friend, an middle aged man VERY good looking a bodybuilder and a lady’s man. He told me that in intimidating because of my confidence....I’ve been told many times that I’m very confident and that I’m intimidating I’m 5’1 so I doubt it’s my height lmao.

As a dude I usually don't let myself walk away without trying to initiate a convo if I feel like I was being checked out....by that I mean eye contact and looking my direction more than any normal person would....I would try doing that if you don't feel like learning how to initiate....someone like me wouldn't pass that up

As a woman I can say when I dress up or look super cute men don’t hit on me. But when I go to the grocery store etc in scrubs OR sweats no makeup I get hit on. I never understood that I get hit on when I look “ugly” and not when I look cute.

It's nice to see a woman's perspective on this. I know some women may appear too subtle to some guys. Maybe that's it in some cases? I can say for me that it's just generally difficult to go up and strike up a conversation if there's nothing immediate to comment on like an event or depending on the location. Maybe it's the same for some guys you check out?

Some guys are probably just generally shy and would like it if a woman comes up to them. Other comments mentioned not knowing the lady's attitude or whatnot and that could be part of it. It's definitely not easy for everybody haha I can point out me in that case.

Like anything else, going out and just doing your hest bit by bit helps and it's already progress that you're talking about it with people. I know I could totally be less awkward

Do you always wear headphones? Are you always looking busy? Do you give yourself room to be in the space/moment? I ask because that (for me at least, average looking, nothing special) makes it MUCH harder to speak to someone, let alone someone you are interested in. The old irony is a city full of lonely people. We are all there, but not really there together. Sometimes speaking a bit out loud to yourself and/not having all these peripherals can make a big difference besides the glances that apparently everyone thinks are so easy to perfect. Either way I have to say personality wise you are definitely up there, both for asking these questions and taking some ridiculous answers so well. Be open to others, happy, and ready to laugh. OP if you’re still lurking, it might be worth touching up on your signals. Many dudes are actively being taught/shown to NOT cold approach women on the metoo era we’re in. The shy brothers are more afraid than ever and the confident/sociable ones don’t want to get pepper sprayed, falsely accused of flirting without a license, or krav magra’ed to the throat.

So try flipping your hair, coy eye contact, smile and slight wink, check your compact or mirror app while he’s looking, etc. If you show some e Olivia interest, the savvy ones will pick up your cue.

If you live in a city:
When i go to the capital(in my country) i never approach girls (neither do I get approached) since in a way it's seen as being creepy a lot of the times. It's not my opinion on this but i got called a creep multiple times when i was asking for a lighter/cigarette(yes i know smoking can be a turn off) and tried to have a conversation with the person who lent me either one of those.

I'd love to approach women (you dont have to be a victoria secret model). But it does depend on the age and if you are in a urban or suburban area and sorry to say this but to a lot of guys...looks matter (face mostly).

In no way is this meant to lower your self esteem since i don't know how you look.

Hey love. It’s not you (or maybe it is, lol, jk, kinda, see part 2 below). Long story short, people are weird and often damaged in some way. Approaching women isn’t easy and often very awkward. Try not to dwell on the subject or think too hard about it. Loving yourself is the most important as well as having your own life, career, goals and aspirations.

I approach women all the time and get at least 100 numbers/year, although I almost never use them. I very much enjoy the game, gassing people up, and introducing people who might be a good match. Never used a dating app as I feel it’s not the way. Never could I ever answer the question “so how’d you two meet” with bumble/tinder/hinge/etc. Makes me cringe just thinking about it but also super happy for all those who find love via the internet. I’m a hopeless romantic looking for a needle in a haystack, which I’m fairly certain I’ll never find again. I fucked up a really good thing and have never been right since, but I’m also glad because she’s too good for me and I’m a mess. I’ve got nothing for a women but a hard time. Partially the reason I never use those numbers after getting them. I become attracted and lose attraction very quickly. Falling in love makes me want to throw up. But also, what’s the point without it. Luckily I love being alone, have a lot of friends and am good at making friends. At the end of the day you could find price charming, have the fairy tale relationship that lights up a room only to lose them in a tragic accident. My philosophy at this point is to find the happiness in life and if it happens it happens. Reason season or lifetime, it’s hard to tell sometimes.

Part 2. - People can smell/sense desperation/toxicity, not saying you are. Eating dessert alone at the bar screams confidence. But those are two reasons I don’t follow up 9/10 times, women sometimes look at you like your going to sweep them off their feet and that’s far too much pressure. Come as you are and take it easy. It also begs the question why are you so ready and willing. Create an atmosphere of “if your game, great, if your not, great”. Keep it moving, don’t sleep around too much and again, have your own life going on. Unattainable goals are good, if you will, because it’s something to strive for that you likely will never reach which gives you endless purpose.

Take it with a grain of salt and again, don’t overthink it. If you are enjoying life, people will vibe with you and you’ll likely find someone who enjoys your company as much as you enjoy theirs.

It’s been real, it’s been fun, actually it’s been real fun ;)

Well, there are those who claim that a woman out on her own does not want to be bothered and it is presumptuous and degrading for a man to assume she wants to be approached. Apparently, there are those who believe this is genuine harassment. Furthermore, the woman may be ill-mannered, arrogant or be offended that a man she finds undesirable would dare to express his interest. On the other hand, there are those like yourself who want to be approached but there is no knowing which hand you are getting. If the man does take initiative, he is taking a risk. He might be chided or he might walk away covered in that coffee the woman was drinking. I certainly wouldn't want a rude woman who is insulted by my mere presence to throw her coffee at me.

Also, men don't like to burn places. If I were to see you in my favorite cafe or restaurant, then I wouldn't approach you. The sad reality is that appearance is very important. I don't know how you look but I would say try to optimise your look. Look at pintrest for inspiration. Go to makeup counceling. Hair stylist. Hit the gym. Im a man and I have done all of these things except the makeup counceling. I figured that if im going to find my next life partner im going all in. The reason is to lure the partner to be attracted and then have them fall in love with your personality. Guys are scared of approaching and in some cases even more so if you look to good or fixed .. dress and makeup according to the dresscode of the place. Since you are a woman you probably already know all of this but I had to learn it :-) i think its great that you came here and just continue and you will find MR right.

One super important tip: guys trends to loose intersest if they get orgasm to early (ex 1st perhaps 2nd date) . Its good to give them a little at a time. Make them yearn for u . Guys confuse horny with emotions.. we just want to have . If we get sex to early we might not have built up enough feelings so then the attraction might get lost. Its not always the truth but it definitely happens.

I generally only approach women in bars or clubs. I rarely do in other settings unless the woman gives a clear signal of interest. You mentioned being shy in some of your responses, so practice holding eye contact and smiling for a second instead of immediately looking away. If the guy smiles but hesitates, hit him with the eye contact/smile once more so he realizes you’re not just being friendly.

When you’re at the bar, are you reading a book, sitting silently, or talking to the people around you? I talk to anyone that’s open to it, regardless of their age or gender. Other people tend to jump into these conversations and I’ve met a lot of women that way. Hope you find some useful advice in the comments and good luck.

I always wonder why some men say that. Even if it were to be true, it adds nothing to the conversation and makes the man come across as a bit insecure, indirectly saying she must have so many choices instead of being confident that he will be the man that gets her. Hey there.. 30-year-old female chiming in, yes with a boyfriend and a number of guy friends that were originally around due to sexual or romantic interest on their part. First step is being friendly, striking up a conversation, causing some laughter, being approachable and available but not too interested. Starting that way is a lot less pressure for the dude than going in for "this is a date or I want it to be a date." People aren't their usual selves under pressure or if they feel like the magnifying glass is on (not saying you are). Primary message is starting a convo is not the same as making a move - who knows, 5 words in you may no longer be interested.

I won’t approach a girl unless she seems “approachable.” Sometimes that’s as simple as smiling when I walk by, saying hi when I sit by her or just asking me a question when I try to say hello. Like sometimes I’ll get “you have nice eyes, long eyelashes, I’m jealous” and I’ll see that as playful enough for me to feel like I can talk back. Also, I have rarely approached someone, I’m like you in that way. I’m good looking and friendly, but women sometimes feel like they can’t talk to me. I think it’s because I’m not someone who is expressive. I don’t smile much, I’m not someone who looks up much, I’m not someone who drinks much, I don’t look around and when a girl does talk to me, I almost talk to her like I’m waiting for her to walk away (not realizing she’s there to stay, which makes her feel unwelcome). I’ve learned to just go into these things being myself, being friendly and open, excited and putting my judgments aside. I put my anxiety aside (even if it takes a few shots) and I find myself more receptive to people around me, keeping more attention and conversation going. It does take effort, though, like I have to ask questions and be genuinely involved rather than tracking the movement/progress of the conversation. I think it’s anxiety in some way. I genuinely only take actions when I can tell there is already interest, but sometimes you’re hoping for that from someone just like you. So no one approaches either person lol idk if that makes sense. I can relate, though.

This is something that I always try and think of from a different POV and most of the time that’s what makes me approach. If a girl approaches me I find it very attractive unless they seem cocky at the beginning. I know it’s not easy on either side to do it but rejection should be a natural thing in our society but people look at it in a bad way. Realistically it builds confidence over time if you get rejected enough. I’ve never had a BAD rejection like being called names or looked at in a bad way.

Do you do flirty things if you like someone ? I ask this because a lot of guys are nervous and won't make a move unless they know for sure you are interested. I'm a moderately attractive female. I get a decent amount of attention, but usually online. If a guy flirts with me in person, it's usually after I've shown him pretty overt signals I would be receptive to it. If you see a hot guy at the bar/restaurant/store/wherever, make meaningful eye contact, add a little smile and look away. That tells him you’re interested and suddenly approachable. He’ll feel more comfortable walking up to you if he knows you’re interested somehow. Men think they want you to be super bold and make the first big move to be asked out but I have found this to be more untrue in practice than in theory so proceed with your own case-by-case judgement on that.

No disrespect but when women actually are the ones trying to approach a guy its the funniest thing. Because they are so not used to do it that they dont know what to do or say next. (Not all women ofc just from my experience).

This motivates me to approach. I am a shy, nervous, anxious person but I'm working on it. I'm just worried about appearing weird or creepy though that's probably an excuse I have given myself. Then again, If most men don't go up and talk to women I'll stand out.

Honestly with all the “men suck, men are trash” posts. I don’t wanna be the guy that makes a woman feel uncomfortable. Approaching someone is a lot harder.

Sometimes I think I just think this as an excuse for not approaching women because my confidence isn’t where it needs to be.
