Would you rather be in a relationship with someone hot but poor, “below average” but ambitious and financially secure, or be celibate for the rest of your life?

This question is for both sexes.

The physically attractive person is very attractive. However, he/she is using your financial resources. For men, the woman in question may be a single mother or a poor woman from a foreign country who can’t find a job. But she has a model quality face and her body looks incredible to you.

For women, the man is unambitious career wise and has few financial prospects. However, he does spend your money on his hair, fashion and gym membership, so he looks great, and he is your physical ideal of a man.

The “below average” man/woman is not very physically sexually appealing at all. Perhaps he/she has a very mediocre face or a body that is overweight and he/she can never seem to lose the weight.

However, he/she has a great job and is very ambitious and financially secure - so secure that you could probably stop working yourself if you wanted to. The person is appealing enough that you can get aroused enough for sex with him or her, but it takes effort and the sex is barely satisfying and unremarkable, unlike with the hot person.

The final choice is to never have sex with another person for the rest of your life. If you try to say “neither of these people are appealing to me”, (an answer that women seem to like to give to these thought experiment questions) then your answer by default will be the celibacy option. No cop-out answers are allowed!

So which would you choose? Assume that all other important attributes (intelligence, niceness, amount of domestic chores performed, etc.) are equal.
