Note that the woman, Kelly Heaphy, has had no charges pressed against her, the police are apparently uninterested in pursuing any charges or questioning for an obvious physical assault with injury, and virtually all media outlets, including, of course, the delightful feminist Jezebel network site Jalopnik, are outright mocking and laughing at the victim of the assault.

One of the things that pisses me off about cases like this is the reporting. Well the one reporting it seems to think this is actually exciting and a good thing. How does no one on the show actually mention something like this is not acceptable behaviour and it shouldn't be treated as such.

I hope he or the state presses charges since the story is public now at least bring some sort of attention that hitting someone regardless of your gender is wrong and against the law. Most likely the media if that happens will treat it as a joke still but at least people will realize that there is possible consequences

Update: she has been banned from all NASCAR events, fined $2,500. And the crew chief of the team has been fined $2,500.

The girlfriend of driver Mike Skeen lost her cool following Sunday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in Canada and slapped veteran road racer Max Papis across the face. NASCAR fined Heaphy $2,500 on Wednesday and banned her from all NASCAR events indefinitely.

According to NASCAR, Heaphy was technically considered part of the team for this race, thus can be subjected to a fine.

"She signed in with the team on a single event license," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said.

Skeen's crew chief, Bryan Berry, was also fined $2,500 for failing to control team members. One of the crew also confronted Papis after the race.

"I'd like to apologize to our sponsors, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and especially the fans on behalf of everyone at Sharp-Gallaher Racing for the incident that occurred following Sunday's race," said team co-owner Eddie Sharp Jr in a statement. "Although Kelly Heaphy is not an employee of SGR, we absolutely do not condone actions such as these from anyone associated with our organization. It is a shame that this overshadowed the first class event that NASCAR delivered in Canada. We have nothing but respect for NASCAR, and will not appeal the penalty assessed to crew chief Bryan Berry."

Ok guys, I'm all about female responsibility, but here's a couple things to consider: 1) The slap didn't seem like anything serious at all. 2) It was the assaulter herself who claimed to "dislocate" his jaw, not a professional medical report, ergo that tidbit is likely completely untrue. 3) Only the one female anchor explicitly voiced support for the woman, and she was aware of point 2. 4) This is a talk show; the anchors are here to converse and spice the stories, not relay opinion or fact. "Wow!" does not equal "good for her."

Let's make sure we're showing the same fair-mindedness we expect to be shown.

Maybe I'm missing the point, violence is never right. But if someone very nearly injured my boyfriend or almost killed him to win a stupid competition, I'd probably punch them right in the dick or cunt. NASCAR is dangerous, and colliding with another car can really hurt someone. Not defending her actions, but as a man with strong protective instincts I understand that sometimes when someone you love is hurt, or almost killed the perpetrator of that incident deserves a slap or two. That being said if he wants to pursue her on assault than so be it, but not we shouldn't need to rush to defend every jackass who gets slapped. It distracts from the real issues, the incidents of real domestic violence. Getting fumed over shit like this makes us seem petty. He did something wrong.

the guys on ESPN had a similar reaction, (minus the "i'd do it too", Stuart Scott called bullshit on the dislocated jaw claim, which i thought was crap because a jaw can dislocate real easy, mine popped out during a wrestling match once) so i've got to agree with a few of the guys here getting downvoted: we're men, we have broad shoulders, pile it on us. Is it bullshit? Sure, but all things law enforcement are by definition bullshit. Max Papis handled himself like a stud by simply giving her the thousand yard stare, and later said something to the effect of "well we know who wears the pants in that family" If the cops, or nascar, or the drivers, sponsors or anyone else with authority doesn't do anything about it then all that does is solidify the well known fact that men, of all colors, are extremely under represented when it comes to receiving the same societal standards as every one else. If Max Papis had raised one pinky finger toward that ding bat he would literally have been pilloried from one end of this great nation to the other, and rightfully so. That video should be shown in every boys gym class across the nation as exactly how you should handle some dumb ass bitch gettin in your face. We all know there's a double standard, all that means is that we're the only ones trying to change it; as usual.
