First I should probably say I am not someone who really believes in dating leagues to begin with. But I’ve noticed there is a lot complaints on here about women chasing men who are ‘out of their league’. And by out their league I assume they mean someone who is more attractive then them(which in my opinion can be subjective). This is painted as a flaw in women to highlight their hypergamous nature.

It seems weird to me because a lot people who push this narrative seem to be under the assumption that men never chase or shoot their shot at women that are objectively more attractive then them. I have a very attractive friend who looks like an instagram model and she gets messages/dms on social media from men all the time asking her out on date or trying to flirt. I’ve seen pictures of these guys, most are either very average looking or old enough to be my dad but I don’t certainly begrudge them (unless they were being creepy or extremely aggressive) for attempting to try to woo my friend. I myself havr time to time gotten messages from random men as well.

So it seems pretty obvious that chasing someone out your league isn’t a gender thing at all. In fact a study conducted on an online dating site even showed both men and women are more likely message someone who is about 25% more desirable then them.

The results reveal that when it came to making the first move, men and women tended to contact people with a broadly similar level of desirability to themselves, but most tried to punch above their weight by offering an opening gambit to people more desirable than themselves. While women, on average, sent messages to men 23% more desirable than themselves, men approached women 26% more desirable than themselves.

So again this doesn’t appear to be a gender thing like it’s painted on this sub but those who think it is, can you explain why?
