I noticed many journalists and authors discuss masculinity today. Apparently we have a crisis of masculinity. Everyone is concerned with it: masculinity this, masculinity that.

The only problem I have with these discussions is that I as a man never felt the presence of some “masculinity”, so it’s difficult for me to get what the discussions are about. Probably I am immune to group pressure, but I never felt I had to follow some kind of a script to live a life.

I see that people are not satisfied with certain male behaviours and life outcomes. It’s okay to discuss them, but when they start talking of “masculinity”, I am a bit lost. I have never felt some kind of abstract masculinity, I haven’t seen “boys will be boys” attitude, I’ve never been a member of an old boy club.

Also, comments on patriarchy are welcome. I don’t have an idea what it is too.
