We will probably end up like Japan where 25% of young men haven't been on a date. The focus on career over family will get even bigger. Due to the fact that the economy is in the shitter and inflation is going up, more women will realize being a mother and sacrificing your career trajectory is a bad idea. Many women would rather live with female roommates than cohabitate with a man. Eventually groups of people will pitch in for a house even if it means they'll have to share rooms. 60 hr weeks will be common, no time for dating. Eventually everyone will hit 40 and realize it's over for them.

Based on the current trends unless something changes and changes fast, especially for young men we are headed for a combo of Japan and South Korea.

Growing disillusion with women and dating, growing animosity for feminism and women in general, lower relationship and sex rates and thus lower marriages and population decline.

We need to make a concerted effort to reinvest in young men and do everything in our power to ostracize dating apps as a start.

The next decade is too short term for much to change except for the likely intensification of trends. Longer term (~20 years) will see result of current trends shaping into political and ideological reality - low fertility middle class types will be the "legacy" population surrounded by immigrants and people who had large families (usually lower class religious types). Dating will shift to patterns favoring the latter simply because the former are demographically suicidal. Younger generations will probably hate everyone involved in the current paradigm enough that it makes millenials hatred of boomers seem friendly.

I think the pendulum has swung too far in favour of women in recent history in dating so there will be a natural tendency to veer towards balance.

The steps towards that I see are men generally going out of the dating scene altogether and working on themselves.

Probably a bit further out, sexbots will make recreational sex between humans nearly obsolete. Depending on timing of other technologies this may have different ramifications:

If aging is cured or ameliorated around the same time, it's no big deal (although it depends on if aging is slowed substantially, halted, or reversed)
Presumably if there's sexbots then there will also be geriatric care and manual labor robots that will resolve any issues with an overpopulation of elderly even if technology cannot alter aging rates.
I have no idea how women will react as a whole. Some will be livid and create slurs like they currently do with passport bros and porn consumers. Some will use sexbots themselves, but likely at a far lower rate than men because robots cannot fulfill the feminine need for partner resource extraction. Others will try to compete with sexbots, likely to no avail.
Men will lose most of their self-improvement desires and be happy living in basic accommodations playing video games interspersed with sexbots at their beck and call.

Once realistic sexbots are cheap enough, dating will be obsolete and the sexes will become increasingly insular. Sand sex, they won't tolerate each others' crap.

Dating for the middle class is still in a transition period as kids of middle class boomers are more obsessed with feeding their own selfish pursuits and hedonism than building or continuing anything enduring. So the parents age out and leave their kids with barely any wealth, and the kids sell off the wealth to fund their own selfish pursuits and die alone.

So everything dating related will be in service of that transition. Dating apps, intoxicating substances, immersive distractions, you name it. The economy encourages people to live their best lives and spend spend spend, rather than save, build, and pass it on so the next generation can have a better life.

Today there’s a lot of discussion going on that’s shedding light on a lot of issues in the dating world unlike ever previously before and I’m wondering what you guys think will be the aftermath of todays ongoing “catalyst” for change I guess you could say, within the next 5,10,15, 20 years.

I mostly see a lot of misinformation spread about the dating world because people have a political and value based agenda, an ideology, and see a way to make money by giving out misinformation.

Dating is better than ever before. Relationships are formed for better reasons than ever before. Needing relationships has been changed to wanting relationships. There are losers and winners to this development like with any development. The losers are very vocal and try to guilt, shame or force their way back into being winners. And some people are clever enough to make a lot of money with these losers, which gives off the impression there is an actual problem as this is they way to make money.

I think prostitution will eventually become legalized, and it will have reverberating effects. For example, I think it will curb a lot of desperate guys who enter into relationships for sexual benefits. Guys will become more experienced in bed and overall carry more confidence. Also, I think men could gain more leverage if male birth control ever comes out, especially if it also prevents sexual diseases. Men would take these pills all the time. If a woman wants children, she will have to value finding a partner that wants to commit to her, parent children with her, and not secretly take birth control behind her back.

A decade is a little short, so I'll go 20-30 years from now.

Over time, more or more people will grow up post-sexual revolution, and with more films that are less focused on winning a perfect prince/princess or saving a damsel in distress.

Frozen, for example, conveys that the guy who looks perfect may be a monster and that an imperfect "fixer upper" (movie's words) may be a better partner. Now that I think of it, Shrek (especially Shrek 2) did this as well. Disney stories weren't really like that, even Beauty And The Beast had "the monster" turn into a perfect prince, basically a reversal of the end of Shrek 1 and 2.

I kind of feel like most are going to gravitate away from dating apps, as the behavior of men and women on them is effectively a feedback look that only causes more frustration for everyone involved.

Even before Covid, people were living more and isolated lives due to the rapid advances in technology, even if it theoretically made it easier to socialize. I think there will be a bull-whip effect, where people pivot more to socializing in person. I wouldn't be surprised if things like barcades or drive-ins make a comeback.

Oftentimes, what happens with rapid transformations in technology is that people jump in for the positives, but over time psychological studies and the end of the "honeymoon phase" will reveal more and more negatives. And when it does, we see a bit of a pullback.

For example, "digital detoxing" (abstaining from social media for a period of time) is far more common than before, as the downsides of social media, the constant dopamine hits, comparing yourself to sanitized idealized posts, become more well known. I think a similar thing will happen with dating apps. Myself and many other men and women have stopped using the apps in the past and have felt happier because of it, and some of us even found partners offline.

I feel that all this will lead to gender norms becoming dilluted, where the differences between men and women become smaller. I think it'll become more normal for women to ask men out, and while men will still pursue more on average, it won't be as lopsided as today. "Going dutch" on dates will become even more common, and if it isn't the case already, dual income households will be the norm.

However, due to economic realities, I think marriage rates will drop, and the birth rate will crash. I think a form of long-term partnership that's viewed as stronger than dating but not legally binding like a marriage will come about. Or the marriage rate will stay about the same but weddings will become less over the top.
