I’m married 5 months now and regret being married on and off. It gets really bad some weeks that I’m incredibly shattered and hopeless.

I’ve always been appreciative of my freedom which I had taken for granted when I decided to get married.

I come from a traditional background and so as my spouse. My wife is not exactly the problem, she has her flaws like every person. And the reason I decided to marry her is that she has of all the criteria that I was looking for in a partner. That’s said the financial strain the wedding left on me and how I ignore certain signs is now causing my constant regret (dowry, and some other dark ages BS). However, the feeling of losing one’s freedom is what crushes me.

If I were to be selfish, I would go for divorce today before tomorrow but I’m afraid that would break my wife’s heart, and not sure if I’ll ever forgive myself too for the heartache it’ll cause to the family.

I’m sure of one thing, I haven’t loved myself enough, and my self-esteem was at all time low prior the marriage which’s why I settled down with someone just because they loved me more than I loved them.

I’m not sure if the regret will go away with time? Or divorce is inevitable. I just know that this low state can’t be tolerable for long.

Thanks!
