I mean dildos, male sex dolls, fucking machines, and man shaped body pillows are already fairly popular and men are pretty okay with them. Depending how advanced these potential sex bots are I could actually see women being more interested in them then men. Women are already more likely to own sex toys and if you count lude romance novels and fan fiction women already spend far more time consuming pornography.

I understand your point about child sex robots, which I don't think would ever happen as it would be a tacit social approval for that sort of attraction/relationship. I also understand that some murderers practiced on or were fixated by mannequins before their crimes, however male sex crimes are usually about power, degradation, and humiliation rather than just about body parts. The fantasies always predated the paraphernalia.

Also, depending on the sophistication of these sex bots I don't think we would program them not to engage with unhealthy fantasies, as again, it would be a tacit social approval of such behaviors. Most lenient case I could see you would end up on some government watch list somewhere.

That's actually a good question. The plot of nearly every movie and TV drama already includes killing a (male) bad guy. Nobody objects to that. Some mass shootings look like scenes from video games, but people vehemently deny any connection there. I'm not sure people would start objecting to whatever you did with your sex doll, but who knows?

It's hard to give a solid answer.

As it is now, the attitude towards sex Robots and the stigma is similar to how body pillows were/ are. It's probably always going to be looked down on or thought as a bit taboo but Robots today also still don't look all that human. Not really anyway, but who's to say in 25yrs time when they look near indistinguishable from actual people, that the stigma will have lifted.

I think this is a good question and I like some of the points you raise. One thing I think about is that there is correlation between legalized prostitution with a decrease in rapes. So while you asked about male sex robots specifically I do wonder if the availability of sex robots resembling both genders would have any effect on DV.

Jealousy is one way to put it. But you have a group of people who have a much harder time getting access to a resource who are resorting to artificial alternatives to address the "scarcity". Now if the same group who is causing the scarcity also uses that same alternative to exacerbate the scarcity then I think referring to negative feelings that may result from that as "jealousy" is lacking in nuance at best.

Imaging referring to lower and middle class people as "jealous" if the rich are able to take advantage of and use up a limited rebate before the lower and middle class have an opportunity. Or look at the animosity towards scalpers.

I think the would be less uncomfortable compared to women. You ever see the movie Ex Machina? Ask men and women what they thought about Nathan's treatment of Ava or Kyoko. My gf got pissed at his "abuse". Where as I saw it as those characters are not human and I'm seeing a creator act out his disappointment in his creation not meeting what he hoped they would achieve.

But at the same time I think you're on to something because if I saw a woman beating the hell out of her male sex robot and being hateful towards it, knowing the robot is a stand in for an actual human, then yeah I would wonder how she felt about human men.

I literally don't see any downsides, just like with female sex robots or AI boyfriends and girlfriends in general. They won't really do any harm and will probably be a great tool for lonely people or people who can't seem to find a relationship for various reasons. ( mental problems, disabilities etc., etc. )

Realistically i don't think men or women really care about female or male sex robots, sex dolls etc., since most people have the understanding and realize that they aren't real living human beings.

My main worry with child sex robots would be the normalisation of sexualising minors.

Before I could give the okay on that, I'd somehow need some pretty concrete evidence that it would infact LOWER the child abuse rates.

If we could prove that the existence of such robots did that, I'd be hard pressed to think of a reason not to create them.

But as I mentioned, I worry, and feel as though it would lead to more children being victimised in the long term.

What all the people excited to hump a terrifying life-sized Hentai mannequin cursed with sentience is they'd be incredibly expensive and hard to hide.

Life-sized sex robots aren't like a vibrator you can stash in a drawer when company comes over. They're basically a roommate who begs all your guests to kill them. You'd have to really commit to that shit.

Which is the real problem: Even if the tech was there, the market for these things would remain too small for prices to go down and break into the mass market.

You can't advertise them using mainstream outlets, for obvious reasons. Their sophistication and unique design would mean they'd be insanely expensive, so good luck selling them as gag gifts or drunken impulse buys.

So who are these for? The only market segment would be people who

1) Are committed to never finding love and aren't concerned about friends finding out

2) Have tons of disposable income

3) Prefer robot sex over human sex (keep in mind these things would definitely cost way more than regularly meeting with high-priced escorts)

4) Have enough space in their home to accommodate a horny suicidal robot

And that's assuming the manufacturer absolutely nails all the nuances and complexities of human sexuality and intimacy, which, spoilers, it won't.

I can't see women being attracted to them for several reasons. They won't have any social status. They will not protect and provide. They will not look perfectly human and will have a vacant stare and basically just look creepy to most women. They will also creep out most women because they will not move or talk with the same grace and fluidity as a real human. They will require maintenance. They will be heavy. You can't "abuse" a robot anymore than you can "abuse" a vacuum cleaner or refrigerator. The robots are still just aluminum, silicone and circuit boards. And the robots that are going to be available in the near term will not be sentient. Humanity hasn't invented robot sentience. These bots will have just enough sophistication to do their sex bot tasks and nothing more.

The assumption that sex robots will be sentient is a mistake that I blame on Netflix and not having a proper grasp on the actual state of AI or how the computing systems that underpin them actually work.

sex robots who look indistinguashable from humans are really far away, at least 50 years or so. Also, society will not really look favorably on people using such sex robots; people using sex robots may feel better, but the illusion will break instantly when you go out and can't really talk about your sex robot as a real relationship.

So, between technical challenges and societal acceptance, i don't think people living today will actually be alive to see the day that having a relationship with a sex robot will be seen as ok.

As a gay man who doesn’t have problems finding casual sex, I think that, to be popular, male sex robots must provide something that cannot be easily provided by casual partners or prostitution.

TBH, the robots being just like men would not sell well. They should try filling in some niche interests instead. I know some gay dudes who have already paid tens or even hundreds of thousands dollars to satisfy their specific kinks and fetishes. These people might be the potential customers.

The reality is that in many places even art depicting fictional minors in the nude is outlawed, so I definitely wouldn't expect child sex robots to be permitted anywhere, and that just is what it is. They wouldn't want to help normalize any illegal activity by allowing people to simulate it.

The thing about legal age sex robots instead is that you have no proof of whether anyone is abusing them or not.
