I don't see how this is gendered. Companies are notoriously ageist, which is why there are laws about it. Plenty of companies try to push out older men. I hear about it all the time. Older people of any gender face discrimination in hiring, as well as other things related to capitalism like securing mortgages. The troubles with aging hit everyone, only the very rich suffer less, and even they have to deal with losing loved ones, illness, and declining health and physicality.

I think there is a particularly western perception of femineity which is often wrapped in youth. Once women move past about 35, I notice this massive shift in how they're treated. They just kinda disappear. Hollywood actresses have spoken about this for years with many complaining how much roles dried up when they were on the wrong side of 30. Problem is, I dont really think women help with this cultural reality. So many young women these days seem to heavily sexualise themselves without sensualising themselves. They'll know how to apply makeup perfectly, wear the right outfits, do the right workouts, undergo the right cosmetic procedures but so few will actually learn the charms, behaviours and personalities that keep men on the hook. They'll then get to 35-40+ having completely aged out and come to realise the game has changed. I see plenty of women in their middle ages who stay with a (often desirable) man wrapped around their finger, but they're often those who actually understand that being some charmless thot doesnt make you a "good feminist".

What I tend to find with most women who complain about having grown old is that they've often never learned to evolve. They sleepwalked through most of their 20s and never really learned to adapt their approach for their age. Its like those aging players in the league who crash out because they've never learned how adapt their style for their 30's where their knees will no longer accommodate playing with reckless abandon.

Job related age discrimination happens to most older workers, male or female. Unfortunately older workers are undervalued and a lot are especially struggling in this job market.

But yep, we get it you guys, old women are icky and you’re happy when you get to witness anything that makes them feel bad (apparently even your own family) because you dislike women. I know, for you it’s a shame they don’t just die instead of aging, right OP, lol!

Idk, maybe I’m an outlier but I’m post menopause, post work retired and having the best years of my life right now. I’m single and never lonely. I don’t think that “the wall” exists the way it’s often portrayed here. I have plenty of older women friends and none of them are unhappy 🤷🏻‍♀️

You blundered this whole opportunity to prove a valid point though. You failed to mention that as women get older they need to continually rely on their utility to the world in order to make ends meet, such as marketable skills, a trade, or a craft that they're good at which they can charge a wage for.

Men face this very early in life: What are you good at? And how can you earn money from it? A lot of women don't deal with this fact of life until their aesthetic advantage starts to wear off.

The fact that a woman’s value is frequently measured by her looks rather than her capability or intellect is both dehumanising and demeaning, yet you call that “privilege”. In your hypothetical scenario, your mother is upset because she’s not getting hired, something that in reality probably has much less to do with her experiences of the climacteric and much more to do with the twenty years she spent out of the workforce.(I don’t want to assume but the usual reason for such a gap tends to be childcare. I’d love to know how “men did everything” to assist her in that full time job…). In your fantasy, you respond to her distress by immediately assuming the reason is because of her looks, thereby effectively announcing that you yourself value a women’s worth by her physical traits. Otherwise, why would you assume that to be the reason? Basically this is yet another low effort, illogical, fantastical and unnecessarily emotional post on this sub invented just to validate or illustrate your own hurt feelings 🙄. Look up SSA report on "distribution of zero-earning years by gender"; women are three times more likely than men to spend more than 25 years earning nothing. If you look outside for me, like, right now, you will notice these women not dying of starvation on the streets. They managed to pull this off. I know a women who worked in a male dominated industry (construction). She told me when she was young and would show up to a work site she would hear the guys complimenting her ass. Now that she is older (50+) when she shows up to a job site she hears the guys complimenting her truck. Time is undefeated.

Age based discrimination in hiring affects both genders. Also not having worked in 20 years is going to be a killer for getting hired regardless of gender as well.

I have really found getting older to be a benefit to me. The older I get the more men treat me like a human being and not a conquest. Like my value is no longer tied to my fuckability. It’s so refreshing.
