A big part of it is that men are usually expected to do most of the pursuing, initiating, escalating, and taking rejection.

So one of the things that motivates that pursuit is visual attraction. Men are generally more visually driven, and since they have to do most of the work to create romantic or sexual opportunities, that visual pull matters a lot.

Women can love intimacy and romance just as much, but they usually don't have to pursue men at the same volume to get access to it. That's why the behavior looks different. Men are often chasing opportunities, while women are usually filtering them.

They may “love intimacy and romance” but not with the average man, the average man on the other hand is attracted to the average woman, hence the overwhelming one sidedness.

I hate to think it's true, and I'd love to be proven wrong, but I think it's very clear women just have a much weaker sex drive than men.

I do not attach moral value to this fact. Men are not better for having stronger sex drives. Women are not worse for having weaker ones. It is "unfair" only in the "things are naturally unequal and it's not my fault" sense. It is not unfair in the "things are purposefully unjust and it's their fault" sense.

Again, I cannot tell you how much I'd want this to be false. My dream is that we live in a world where men and women are as heavily into each other as erotic fiction. I just think on pretty much every conceivable measure of human sexuality in real life, that men just want it more.

Even the much hyped idea that women are into erotic fiction or sex toys seems overrated to me. There's a huge grey area in the stereotype of "Women like the emotional connections in erotic fiction while men just like pornographic visuals." Men also form emotional connections with fictional characters.

Men also read an enormous amount of erotic fiction, it's just more visual than literary (manga vs. novels). Media in general is heavily sexualized, to the point where the "male gaze" was a huge trope in gender discourse. You don't need to actually seek out porn to find imagery or stories that appeal sexually to men.
I would guess that male anatomy is far easier and more comfortable to stimulate with the hands alone than female anatomy, thus the demand for sex toys is far lower. Nobody could ever deny that men masturbate a ton, so women buying more sex toys has to be about something else than simply the drive to get off.
The line between "erotic" fiction and non-erotic fiction is much blurrier than people think. If you're looking up porn of a fictional character on a fandom's NSFW sub, it shows that the non-sexual emotional connection to the character is providing something that a plain sexual imagery wouldn't. Why does it have to be "Naked >character from non-sexual series" than just "naked woman"? It's due to the emotional connection from watching/playing/listening to her in non-sexual situations. A huge reason why vtubers are popular is because they're sexualized women but also still doing plenty of normal chatting, game playing, and singing.
Men pursue real life connections on top of their love of fiction, while many women seem to find erotic novels and sex toys satisfying unto themselves. The "my bofriend/husband watches porn" is a classic relationship advice trope, and a lot of men turn to erotica and porn because they don't have the real thing. I don't get the sense that women read erotic fiction as a last resort when they can't find a boyfriend, and I don't see nearly as many "My wife won't stop reading booktok romantasy what do I do?" posts.

Women definitely obsess over men the same way, just a much smaller percentage of them. It was absolutely mind boggling how much female attention my older brother got when I was growing up.

The goal of evolution is to have as much offspring survive as possible. Because women have to spend almost a year pregnant (and presumably 20 years raising the kid) they have to be more selective of who they have sex with. Men on the other hand can easily just make someone pregnant and fuck off, which is why men are much more horny and expected to approach women not the other way round

Men become much more picky when it comes to relationship-formation. It takes a lot of time and effort to form a relationship and keep it going! You have to spend money and time on dates! Text them! Even contemplate the idea of intermingling with your partner and creating new life which takes an absurd amount of energy to raise to completion. Hence why a lot of women complain about how they’re unable to secure commitment from potential mates or men will stop abruptly seeing a woman after intimacy.

But…

Men are indeed much less picky about who they shag. Simply commenting, DMing, even going on dates is not commitment. Yes the baseline stats do suggest that men do try harder in the initial stages, but ultimately there are a lot, and I mean a lot of steps before that effort turns into a relationship. A lot of these things you say are “interest” don’t really require much thought at all. It takes 3 seconds for me to send a DM. I sign up for a dating app, it takes me 3 minutes.

It’s like going to a gourmet restaurant because there is one particular dish that one really loves, compared to wanting to go to a buffet and trying all kinds of different foods because one just enjoys so many different kinds of foods. They are both intense cravings and loves of food, but they are just different in nature. Women need to understand that men like variety when it comes to women, and men need to understand that women get very excited about certain high quality men that have the great qualities that they like, but not as much other men.

Allow me to double down. It's simple biology.

Males don't get pregnant. They have the actual dual mating strategy

1) Fuck a lot of women. Preferably attractive ones.

2) Pair bond with one and raise children together.

Both are perfectly viable in the wild where you don't have child support or paternal tests.

This is why fathers typically hate when their daughters dress slutty. They innately comprehend this mechanic.

This is why men are always chasing women. Because men can just fuck off if the woman turns out to be a psycho. A woman who has sex with a pscyho man has to raise his seed for 18 years (or however long it took in the wild, probably less lol).

This is why you see these disparities. They are not learned. They are wired.

Modern social media reduces in-person interaction which reduces friendships which reduces intergender friendships which reduces romantic relationships which makes casual relationships relatively more common. Women don't like casual relationships, so they just stop dating. This creates a supply imbalance which then creates an even larger price imbalance. Men have to pay a large upfront cost then to cover this price imbalance to get with a woman. Women then find they enjoy these advantages so they continue to exploit them rather than attempting to switch back to serious relationships. Which is why the push for more serious relationships is now slowly coming from men. With the rate of change in modern life I expect high variability and low matching rates to last a long time.

Simple, there are biological and social elements creating this behaviour. Having sexual intercourse with the opposite sex has always been more costly for women and by extends families who have to take care of a mother and her child when the man doesn't take his responsibility and goes somewhere else. So there were more restrictions on women leading to a purity culture on women. Also women have generally a responsive desire, they can't feel desire unless there are the right conditions (time, place, hormonal cycle, mood, mental illness, etc ) while men can have a spontanuous sexual drive by just existing.

If you add the fact that there is an hypersexualisation coming from a society based on a man sexuality (porn, pressure on beauty, sexual and suggestive content on social medias, etc.). So men have a lot more energy and motivation to pursue women. But I think they should invest it on other goals (all that wasted energy for nothing)

I guess cause most mens genes arent optimized for visual attractiveness since procreating mostly depended on being useful enough to provide for a woman in the past. And genetic histories of famine also dont help since they keep men small lessening visual attractiveness.
