I'd be too embarrassed to post this. My own mental rule even when I had fuck all for self esteem was "2 years" or go. After six months we'd sit down and discuss long term goals and, if we wanted the same things, I'd take notes of their goals and over time observe their actions and see if it aligned with their words.

This immediately makes me think of a coworker who is pursuing me, but who is in a 6 year, live-in relationship with a girlfriend. I know that the girlfriend, who is almost 40, really wants to get married. I hear gossip from around-the-office that the male coworker, 35, is always complaining about the girlfriend and that "he's not interested" in marrying her. As a woman, I have sincere sympathy for the girlfriend, but I also know exactly why she's acting like a Pickmeisha: she's already wasted 6 years of her life, she's not getting any younger, and SHE CAN'T AFFORD THE SAME QUALITY OF LIFE ALONE. This woman is suffering because she broke a ton of FDS rules: moved in with the boyfriend, stayed more than 1.5 years, she'd experience a deep cut in quality-of-life if she separated.

And circling back to the first sentence -- yes this dude is pursuing me, even though he has a girlfriend. I still have to be polite because he's a more senior coworker, but I try to cut every conversation short. I can tell he's trying to learn more about me so he can "comparison shop" between me and the girlfriend. I keep every conversation strictly about work and don't even tell him what I'm up to on weekends (which he always asks with the angle of figuring out if I'm single) because: data ain't free, and I don't give information to men who have such shady motives.
