Oh I remember reading this story! They met in India and they fell in love while he drew a portrait of her. They got married and when she went back to Sweden they wrote each other letters. He decided to leave everything behind to bike to Sweden to see her. He didn't know she was part of the monarchy up until he arrived to Sweden by bike.

I just looked it up and apparently they got married when she first went to India, just a few days after they first met. She then had to return to Sweden, and after a few weeks he missed her too much and sold all his belongings to buy a bike in order to travel to her.

Also some comments suggested that she's part of the monarchy but that doesn't seem to be the case, she is of noble birth because her ancestor saved a king's life 300 years ago, but in today's Sweden it's nothing special to be part of the nobility. She does seem to own a lot of land though.

Still a heartwarming story! There's also a book written about them, The Amazing Story of the Man Who Cycled from India to Europe for Love by Per J Andersson.

The trick is finding someone who feels lucky to have you. That's it. That's the secret. You have to find someone who considers you a marvel, loves the good and bad parts and thinks you're amazing. Not someone who will take any and all abuse, but someone who is fascinated and intrigued by you so much that they want to stick around and read the next chapter.

The problem is so many people (especially men) these days look at women as obligations, people who take up their time and resources, etc. A lot of the time men don't even like or respect their partners.

I needed to read this. Guy and I saw each other over winter break (now 3 months ago!!) and we go to different colleges. I am graduating in two months and he is a year younger. He was my roommates professor in Borås (City in Sweden) I read the whole book about his journey. She had even started dating another Swedish guy by the time he came there and they had some arguments but he still stuck with her. In tye end of tye book there's several pictures of them and their children.

Oh sweet! Those flowers caught my eye, they are wildflowers that are in bloom only in April-May. Absolutely adorable. In the 70s it was customary to have very small weddings, at least in Nordic countries (Or thats the impression I've got).

This is so sweet and reminds me of my own parents! My mom is American and my dad is from India. They also met while my mom was traveling. They sent letters to each other and talked on the phone whenever my dad could get a chance, then he came to NY to be with her because that’s where my mom was living at the time.

It’s funny because normally men from India are pretty misogynistic and treat women like servants. My dad moved heaven and earth to be with my mom and still treats her like a queen to this day, nearly 30 years later. He gave up smoking for her and learned to love cats because she had a cat. He makes her coffee every single morning, packs her cut up fruit and snacks to take to work with her, he does more housework than her, and just a million other things I can’t even keep count of. He’s set the standard in what I should look for in a man, and I couldn’t be more grateful that their relationship was modeled for me to aspire to.

If someone loves you, they will do the absolute most. I remember being the same way as the man in this post and not having that returned (long-distance relationship of 2 years). It's seriously a breath of fresh air to not have that problem anymore!
