Every time I read posts about a wife wanting out, the advice to the husband is always the same: “Just work on yourself — go to the gym, get therapy, focus on self-improvement, and maybe she’ll see the change.”

But realistically, that only works a small percentage of the time. Most of the time, it feels like an easy out — she’s already halfway gone, and instead of actually addressing the relationship, he convinces himself that “becoming better” is enough to save it. Meanwhile, she leaves without anyone truly fighting to keep the marriage alive.

I understand there are situations where divorce makes sense — cheating, abuse, or serious betrayal. That’s a different story. But in cases where it’s just unhappiness, lack of connection, or communication problems, why is the “fix yourself quietly and hope she comes back” plan always treated like the gold standard?

Why don’t we talk more about actually confronting it head-on, instead of just waiting and hoping?
