That was when I didn’t make any money, but now, the cumulative price of the jewelry I wear on me is 2k, that’s the price of entry my guy and you gotta top it if you want to make it into my life.

Also buying nice jewelry does not have to bankrupt you, this man clearly did not try. My dad is the cheapest man alive, but he recently got me this gorgeous 18k thick gold bracelet that I know was on sale and clearance and who knows what else, but this shit will last me forever. He spent time looking for it.

(Also he understands that gold and diamond prices do not go down too much so it’s a good investment not just a gift)

When I was 18, my boyfriend did a more decent job with my promise ring. It had an equally tiny stone, but it was a real (good quality) diamond and a large thick white gold band around it that 'hold' the stone. Looked really cool, especially with our names engraved and our anniversary date. That was my promise ring bought by a 19 year old poor student.

He told me he wanted to signal to the world that we belonged to each other and shared our lives (he chose a ring too). And that the two circles stood for infinity so it was a good representation of his love for me.

I winced. The most important part is that she's disappointed. Any partner who loved her and wanted to impress her would do their best to make up for this by getting her a ring she was truly excited to wear.

As for my personal opinion: this ring is so pitiful it would languish in my jewelry box until I got up the energy to list it for the $30-50 resell value it has. For context, I love jewelry. With my first paycheck as a teenager, I did my research and bought a 6mm lab-created ruby (under $20), a random 18k gold gemstone ring from Amazon, and then had a jeweler replace the stone with my flawless ruby. The ring, including services, cost less than $200 and looking back, I very much overpaid for the gold ring.
