Think it's more that they feel they can't take risks or get out of their comfort zone because they may be misunderstood (very common when developing one's underdeveloped social skills). They're not "not allowed" to do those things but if they give off the wrong vibe or inadvertently do something inappropriate they feel they're going to get chastised for it

Examples like I haven't been in a relationship but know a lot of those who have like early 20s and teens. I have lived in an environment surrounded by males mostly (boys hostel and then two degrees of mechanical engineering). The things I have heard are men shouldn't shout but she can, real man doesn't hit his wife but she can (yes, I agree DV is mostly recorded done by men but this is a common trope even in a conservative society such as mine. If anyone does it they do it behind closed doors), don't argue with her and accept whatever she says, don't cry atleast not infront of her, don't mess up even a single bit otherwise she will leave as she has options (walking on eggshells), etc.

Let's say you're at work and an opening presents itself for a joke that's mildly sexual in nature. If a man says it women could complain. If a women says it it's funny.

Even if a man tries to complain he'll be told its just a joke and not that serious, but if a woman complains then it's inappropriate.

They claim “they aren’t allowed” because then they might get accused of a crime, or be publicly shamed, or their reputation would be ruined.

They claim they are afraid of the consequences of other people’s reactions to their approach. But what they are really afraid of is getting rejected. But that makes them seem like a coward. And no one wants to admit that. So their fear NEEDS to be out of their control.

“It’s not that I’m afraid of rejection it’s just that you can’t predict if someone might accuse you of something!!! Better not ask just to be safe!”

It’s not that complicated. Sometimes we self sensor. Women have to too. But men sometimes feel that they have to do it more than women. They feel like they can’t say the truth. dating is such a competition. Young me go through arduous trail and error process they have to learn the right and wrong things to say. Saying/doing the wrong thing can destroy a girl’s perception/attraction. Me’s behavior often crosses into ‘just telling a girl what he thinks she wants to hear’.

It messes with a lot women. Women want honesty, but honesty is sometimes at odds with what they want to hear. The cost to the man is rejection. Men often feel that ‘saying the wrong thing’ can cause their disposal. Sometimes it’s because men do/say things that are just unacceptable. Sometimes people, both women and men think/act irrationally to the truth. If you can’t be trusted to accept the truth, then you can’t trust people to tell you the truth.

Of course that not right, but there’s a learning curve that we all have to accept As part of the dating process

The men who make these comments are men who are what is termed "vulnerable narcissists". Vulnerable narcissists are defined in Wikipedia as such:

Deep down, these men want to be liked and to have social approval. Hence, it bothers them when men who they consider more attractive than them seem to get away with actions that, when they themselves do them, might get considered "creepy".

First and foremost, these men do not want to be considered creepy and their biggest fear is being socially shamed, which is even more of a threat these days than in the past due to the existence of social media.

So when these man say "allowed to", they mean "allowed to do certain things to attempt to attract women without being considered creepy and being socially shamed for it."

I think there is a group of dudes who grew up online, “learning” about women and people by “spying” on the conversations they were having with each other.

They see a group of women complaining about men, and these men think “they’re talking about ME!!”

So it’s not that they are actually being obstructed in their real lives, so much as if you follow ENOUGH conversations between women complaining to each other about various things, you can convince yourself ALL women complain about EVERYTHING you do. So these dudes feel like they’re not allowed to do anything… without a woman somewhere complaining about it (if they look deep enough!)

maybe the first downvote i've given in here for a post. its socially acceptable or even legally acceptable, as in, women can do the thing, and men simply cannot.

some instances; AWDTAG and so called red flag group regularly harass and publicly shame men. showcasing their names, locations, alleged 'crimes; to which they are publicly shamed and have their lives destroyed.

women do this with impunity, when they are clearly violating explicit laws against harassment, as well as a number of other laws.

when dudes do this in any way, they are regularly shit down as an online group.

to be clear, the former is praised in public, the latter is shut down.

women can beat men in public, to the praise of people, oft laughing and having a sweet o time. a man so much as touches a women, she may call the coops and get him imprisoned for it.
