I’ve been pretty annoyed with my receding hairline. It’s genetic because my dad is bald and had the same thing when he was my age. Despite being tall and built, and having a friendly face, I feel like my hairline makes everything look terrible. I also look way older than my age. I’m 22 and people regularly mistake me for being 30.

For me, I normally work on other aspects of myself during long breaks. Such as during summer vacations. I’ll normally work on some personal projects or study French.

There’s literally nothing I can think of that’s more cringe than some genetic dead end social outcast low status loser trying to “self improve” to fit into society. It’s like they’re so far off the mark I don’t even know where to begin with them. The average person, and even the above average, just exist and the things that you consider “normal” just happen to them. No high schooler ever had to “self improve” to get a girlfriend, he just existed, thought it would be cool and fun to play sports, and a girl was attracted to him and they gravitated towards each other. There’s no thought out into any of this, these things just happened through the natural flow of life, no “self improvement” necessary. That’s what happens when you’re not a genetic dead end mentally ill freak, you don’t ever find yourself one night lying in bed alone wondering why you don’t have a single friend or you’ve never kissed a girl at 23 years old. You don’t devise a plan to stop touching your cock for six months in order to look a girl in the eye. You just exist, you go with the societal flow, and you end up with a couple girlfriends and FWBs in high school and college, then a wife, a nice job, a house, and some kids. If you missed out on this flow, it’s probably because you’re complete genetic shit.

If you don't save yourself, nobody else will. Nobody will help you, and you will absolutely die alone in your own misery if you don't dig yourself out.

A man's life means absolutely nothing to everyone else, but it should mean something you.

So, save yourself by becoming an acceptable person.

It's all you have left.

Can somebody with too much time on their hands tabulate how many posts are advising men on how to improve ourselves, how many are advising women on how to improve themselves and how many are gender neutral?

Just scrolling through it seems like the majority are advising men, the second largest segment are gender neutral and only a scant few advising women. I guess women have far less room for improvement.

Back in March, I decided to take a huge risk. I knew that I wanted to get stronger and look better, but I wasn't hitting the gym like I should. I was pretty sure that the problem for me was that actually getting ready and going to the gym took too long, and was putting me off from doing it. So I plunged into r/homegym and built myself one. Since then, I've been packing in the gains like no tomorrow. I've raised my bench 30 pounds in a little more than 2 months. I haven't hit my goals yet, I still can't even squat my weight, but I'm not far off from it. When I actually accomplish some of my lifting goals, I'll start tackling my general appearance problems. When I do, I know that once again my biggest obstacle is going to be general accessibility. I actually have 0 idea of how I'm going to do it. I've never really given too much thought to my appearance, so I'm not sure what would even look good on me, and what areas I'll need to improve. I'm hoping that when the time comes, I'll feel confident enough to ask for help. Right now, that seems kind of like an impossible task, because the people I'd think of asking don't have high opinions of me. Oh well. Ain't no way out of this hole other than climbing.

I think it's tough sometimes to do self improvement and have it feel endless, like you'll never be good enough for anyone else.

Self improvement has to be for you and nobody else. Do what you want to work on and improve, or else you're going to burn yourself out.

It's okay and attractive to take care of yourself. Please use body soap to wash your body. Please cleanse the items you use to wash your ass with. Pls wear sunscreen, it really helps. Acne products are not gay. Neither is getting your eyebrows waxed or groomed every so often. Moisturize your skin, wash your face with facial cleansers. 5 in 1s are generally not productive in helping your bodily health. It may wash the stench just as good as another cleanser, but it doesn't have the right preventative measures or benefits as specialized soaps do. Your skin is different based on its location.

Remember that products marketed as easy and all-inclusive also have the same incentives to lie as companies that claim their products have every benefit known to man. Totally reasonable to settle for something in the middle.

Men, all men, regardless of your age START WEARING SUNSCREEN EVERYDAY.

The soap you use to wash your buttle is not the same soap you should be using to wash your face.

Go to r/skincare and then to Ulta or Walgreens or CVS and find a good face wash and moisturizer.

Exfoliate. Everything. Use a chemical one.

Get rid of those black heads on your nose, there are facial products that aren’t those sticky strips that do a really great job.

Take care of your fingernails, toe nails, hands and feet.

Trim your nose hairs and shape up those eyebrows so we can see your eyeballs, and facial expressions.

Use a light body moisturizer. Actually just go all in some aquaphore. When your skin is moisturized light bounces off angular, vascular, and muscular features that are masculine and visually appealing to women and more prominent.

Whiten your teeth a little bit with those whiting strips. Too white looks creepy but whiter looks better.

Always carry chewing gum.

If you have a rounder face, grow a beard. Don’t grow a beard if you can’t. It looks like a fungus taking over your face.

Spend the money on a good scent but use it sparingly. It’s not to repel it’s to entice someone to get closer. Women tend to like woodsy spicy musk like fragrances on men better than citrusy ones because they mix better with your sweat.

If you have naturally reddish skin, Eucerine makes an anti-redness facial moisturizer that has a teeny tiny bit of green pigment which evens red tones.

You can loss weight and build muscle all you want, but when your skin looks good, you actually appear more attractive, fresh faced, healthy, clean, and more attractive.

Stop putting pictures of fish you caught or dead animals you’ve killed on your dating profile.

Minor changes make a world of difference.

I'm thankful for self improvement, I guarantee I'd still be in a slump, drinking constantly, not working out anymore, and being a miserable bastard if I hadn't gotten onto self improvement, it made me come to appreciate to smaller things in life, that not everything is going to turn out the way you expect it to, but that you have to learn to take the bad with the good, and that we all have a chance to turn things around.

Been doing 30 weighted squats a day since February, trying to fit some in the morning as well. It's not much but I'm slowly seeing results. I realised that whilst I eat healthy, I eat big portions so trying to cut that down a little.

My skin care routine for the last three years has done wonders. I haven't developed a single line or wrinkle yet. Hi highly recommended retin-A and SPF to all the girls and guys put there.

Self improvement is good for your personal life but I think for guys it has a net negative impact on their dating life.

Self improvement tends to look at objective measures, more net worth and muscle/body fat and less subjective ones like charisma. The problem is women in general fall short of men by these objective measures, so men will improve and find they can’t attract a similarly fit or similarly financially stable woman, and it just increases bitterness about the dating market.

Self improvement raises men’s standards faster than it raises their attractiveness.

For women self improvement is fine for personal life and dating, the trouble is losing friendships with other women.

Self improvement has been my obsession for a while now. Trying to omprove my status, wealth and body. My body is in the best shape it has ever been and I am 32 years old. My mental health has improved greatly but declined because of work recently. My wealth and financial status is improving and became a qualified personal trainer recently. I definetly am improving and I keep going up. My ultimate goal I could say is to be the best I can be and be happy by myself since nowadays good quality women are a thing of the past and can't get a woman unless you are a high value man or very very lucky.

Self Improvement

This is my Layer Cake of Success:

Health;
Wealth, and finally;
Icing.

When younger I used to structure my life, and my daily routine; into these three categories. From my early teens, into my mid twenties; the first two dominated. A little ‘icing’ here and there, but mostly work. Now it’s almost flipped. Still train at 5am, but there’s loads of free time. Do the school runs with my kids. Read. Teaching myself woodworking. Painting and sketching. Cooking. Rereading The Wheel of Time. Which took a 15 odd years the first time around. Life’s good. Self improvement is where it’s at.

Controversial: For some people, no matter how much they improve, hit the gym, get to 10 percent body fat, muscles, money, friends, hobbies, they will NEVER be successful.

That's the cruel thing about self improvement - there are no guarantees. You can be top SMV and not make it.

However, for 95 percent of people, self improvement does work.

A lot of "self improvement" is learning how to effectively market oneself rather than actual improvement. A lot of men really don't know how to market themselves well. Women seem to naturally be better at it, but even some of them have problems with it.

Controversial take - To the extent that a man decides to engage in this abstract notion of "self improvement," it should be along the following lines only:

Consider the man you would desire to be if you lived in a society populated only by men. Cement that image in your mind. If you're going to work towards any kind of self improvement, let it be towards this image and this image alone.

Under no circumstances should you "improve" yourself so that you better conform to the female ideal of what you should be. This is to move away from yourself, and from your highest path.

And no, these two directions are not the same. There may be some overlap, but that is inconsequential. The fact is, if you spend any amount of energy on what women want you to be, it's energy squandered. Life is preciously short, and our available energies are finite. Use them to better YOURSELF, and to become the best version of yourself possible, not to create a false character so that you can appease the fickle whims of the opposite sex. If you spend energy on the latter, you will never become your best self. There is ALWAYS room for improvement, and you are by definition failing to capitalize fully on that potential if you're busy performing cartwheels.

Edit: I direct this message to men for the singular reason that I'm a man myself, and I condider this an important manosphere topic. I would recommend the exact same thing for women, fwiw.

You can't get a good haircut without the good hair.

Your clothes are decided by the social settings.

Confidence is backed by your looks.

Career success is decided by a mix of looks, luck and connections.

The only self improvement you can do is gym + steroids, it also can give you a better jaw by chance.
