Nothing has changed, dating has always been hard for those that are unattractive.

I disagree.

Red pill and black pill ideologies seem to become more mainstream year after year and surveys say young people are having less sex than they used to. Both of these things seem good indicators to confirm the current dating landscape is somewhat underwhelming.

This is not the truth, it is just bad for THEM. Nothing has changed, dating has always been hard for those that are unattractive. For the average person and above its fine. The more attractive you are the more options you have and that's just common sense.

It's somewhat odd among blue-pill people there are two strands. Those who say everything postulated by red pill and black pill has been common sense all along, which I doubt, and those who say being unattractive shouldn't be a major obstacle to find a mate because it's all about personality and confidence.

Some men just have unrealistic expectations. They become shocked when women dont want to have casual sex with them so they think something must be wrong- then they post on PPD saying the dating world is unfair to men. Idk where men seem to get this idea that they are entitled to casual sex because that's not how the world works.

I don't think these men feel entitled to sex, at least not most of them. I think it's just a feeling of frustration and bitterness from seeing, or believing, other men getting casual sexual encounters easily, while they have to deal with rejection, loneliness and virgin-shaming.

Oh, and dating is screwed for women too cause they might get the sex, but not the commitment. Women who want a husband who is very attractive and very successful might not get one because that guy has a huge abundance of options probably more than her.

I think a lot of the stuff on here is over exaggerated when it comes to the plight of the average man (in the UK at least, I can’t speak for over the pond) however I would indeed say that things are worse in ways.

It is undeniable that online dating has changed the landscape somewhat due to the access to a higher tier of men that average girls didn’t have such easy access to prior. Whilst things might not be “quite” as bad as made out to be on here, the reality is that many average girls on Tinder have a self perception that places them above the average man; and that the average man will get so little attention on there that the disparity is difficult to ignore

It’s hard to say there’s something wrong with dating I think it’s more that it’s different now.

Social media does incentivize low attention spans and the next best thing.

Dating apps are MEANT to be superficial and people for some reason are smart enough to get degrees but don’t understand the incentives dating apps have to keep people on them.

Social skills have been worsening. The pandemic rocked our shit in this way.

Men were previously told that they just needed to view dating women as fitting a checklist. If I have a car, some hair, can pay rent, not a general asshole, women should be falling at their knees. And now that women aren’t dependent a lot of them fail to advocate for themselves in other ways. Most ppd men cannot explain to me how they themselves would make a good partner in any other way than having money.

Women have an abundance of options that don’t treat them well or just like a number. Women like to feel special and men don’t know how to do this because they’re more desperate while already trying to navigate a dating world that places value on more than the traditional version of a man.

I do think low value men complain the loudest but i understand the general frustration. As many men I’ve met who’ve left me speechless with their terrible behavior and lack of basic social skills, I’ve heard from them that alot of women also struggle to make connections and initiate things.

Our society is changing very rapidly. It’s hard for anyone to adapt but I do think that women have a social advantage more than men and attract people easier. Men have not adjusted to this at all explaining why so many men are unsuccessful despite being attractive in some way (decent looks, decent income, nice).

The "dating world" is too broad a scope. If you live in a rich area, a democratic country, where human rights are respected, it also does not mean that there is nothing wrong with these things in the whole world.

At a minimum, the specifics of genders, age, sexual orientation, social class, education, areas and the desired type of relationship must be taken into account. In the US, probably even races. For example, in different cities of America, the composition of the single population is different. It is different at universities or in the working class.

And then there's the question of what do you think the purpose of dating is so that we can tell if dating serves that purpose and is therefore okay or not. For example, fertility rate in developed countries. Or the usualness and desirability of marriage, or even romantic relationships. If someone believe that it's perfectly fine for most people to live single lives and be childless, and that dating doesn't have to serve any purpose important to society, then "dating world" might be perfectly fine even if no one will date, from that point of view.

The dating world has always had issues, and you’re right that men who struggle are more vocal on these platforms than those who don’t, so it isn’t as bad as one might judge from this sub.

That being said, there are some unique challenges with dating today due to the atomization of society and lack of opportunities for meaningful social connections.

Has there ever been a poll/survey on the gender distribution of this sub?

I have a feeling that (just like reddit in general), there is a gender imbalance in this subreddit. This causes more male-oriented perspectives/problems posted in this sub.

As for whether there is something wrong with dating world, there is no right answer. It implies there is a "fair" mate selection system, when there is none. What exist are changes that tip the balance to one side or another.

The online dating is the latest thing that cause the change in this balance, and so far it has tipped the power to women (due to considerable gender disparity in OLD). It makes sense that a lot of men complain about the state of dating world, especially those that compare it to the time before OLD is considered to be the norm.

But in grand scheme of thing, I would think this is minor compared to the sexual revolution (sex with miniscule risk of pregnancy) or women entering workplaces (which liberate woman from dependence to man as a sole breadwinner).

It’s more difficult because in the past there was more social pressure for women to pair up monogamously and to get married and to have families. Now, there is not as much of that pressure. Average men have to work much harder to try to attract women.

Wrong, there's nothing like low value/high value men/women. We are not objects for sale. Most men don't have a partner unless later in life 28+. Most men are being rejected and half of them are virgins before 28/30. Yes, most men find someone after 28. Couldn’t agree more. This sub is filled with neurodivergent, borderline average men complaining that above average women won’t date them. Like yeah the thing that changed is that women now don’t HAVE to marry because they can support themselves for the entirety of their life. That’s not a problem. Like doesn’t it say something if a woman would rather choose to be alone than try to share her life with a partner?? There’s a reason less women marry after divorce than men.
