I still don't understand this shit. I once stayed somewhere that had a rule of always keeping the toilet closed. That way everyone had to do something with the seat. There was a girl who sat on a completely closed toilet and pissed. After that I started to wonder if some females just were never potty trained properly or lacked common sense or were just lazy and nasty. She did not clean up her mess. She threw the same kind of tantrum she would have thrown if she sat on a fully open toilet and got her ass stuck in the water. All the girls insisted that the boys clean it up. All the boys pissed outside and shat at the gas station until someone cleaned it.

There are two options

always close both lids so no matter who it is that gets into the bathroom, they gotta lift the seat up.

never touch the lid after doing your business so that there's an ~50/50 chance of having to lift/put down the toilet seat for anyone going into the bathroom (assuming the gender ratio is 50/50)

The way I see it men like it up, women like it down. If a woman walks in and it's not to her preference she can make one action and put it down. If a man walks in and finds it not to his preference he can make one action and put it up. Asking men to put it both up and down again is making men do all the work. Life would be so much easier if men and women were considerate of each other rather than bitching about something that is so trivial it's moronic to bitch about. Turning this into a gender war is even more pathetic (that goes for both genders) - Surely you have more things to worry about than what position the toilet seat is in. If not, then I envy you for having so few problems in life.

As a guy who grew up in a house with more women than men, I got used to putting the toilet seat down after I was done (although, I rebelled slightly by putting the lid down too), so I don't see why so many guys bitch about putting the seat down. It doesn't take long and it's not hard to remember, especially since you should be flushing the toilet after, which puts your hand right next to where it needs to be to put the lid down.

As for women (and guys, too, I guess) who sit down before looking: You have no-one to blame but yourself. Try looking before sitting, or take some damn responsibility for it if you're stupid enough to not look and then fall in.

Like I said, it's a shame people aren't more considerate than just 'me me me me!'.

Me and my girlfriend reached this compromise a long time ago.

Everybody puts both seats down when they're done. That way everybody has to lift the seat to use it and it's equal work.

The Transgender I work with didn't agree with this system and tried to tell me I should just put the seat up because it's the nice thing to do. I told her/him I don't support female privelage, it told me I don't deserve to talk to women. Lol.

Worked at a place that had bathrooms - 1M, 1F.

Eventually corporate said turn both to unisex. Was nice to not wait.

One of the management cronies apparently went into the old ladies room and didn't look before sitting down and splash. I didn't know this at the time.

Next meeting - everyone please put the seat down if you had it up.

I asked why since you face the toilet when you walk in that you aren't able to determine up or down. Several other people (men and women) echoed similar statements and chuckled along the lines of "what kind of idiot doesn't look before they sit in general?".

If looks could kill....I'd still be getting slowly pulled apart atom by atom. Crony was not amused and became rather cold to me after that.

I kicked the seat up every time and know several others who did as well. I like to think it annoyed her.

Ha, first post I see after I just used the toilet at my girlfriend's house (residents: 4 females, no males) and ended up cleaning so much gross off the underside of the seat and the rim that I was glad there were cleaning supplies under the sink. And disinfectant soap for my hands. How they got so much spattering all around without thinking to lift the seat—just wow. And the blood on the underside of the very front of the seat, whoever did that was so dgaf it must've been one of the teens.

Public restrooms have no lids, just seats. So that whole train of thought most likely does not apply to this situation. But to throw my two cents in: who cares? Either way? I'm not in tha habit of securing the toilet (though I probably will be once I have a baby crawling around), but I wouldn't have a problem doing so if it bothered someone else. Of course they'd have to tell me about it.

There's nothing wrong with having an open toilet. It is what it is. People deficate, it's in its only little room for that purpose, big deal??

And why don't those girls install a dang urinal or give the boys their own room? I'm pretty sure that's why public restrooms are gendered in the first place.

I know this is going to disappear in down votes, but internal sex organs vs external creates different issues. Men don't get UTI's as easily, therefore should be the one to lower the lid. If a lady touches a dirty toilet seat then those germs get on her vagina (accidentally or because of laziness), a UTI is likely to form. Or yeast infection, bacterial vaginitis, etc. If I personally have to put a lid down, I wash my hands immediately before using the toilet, such a waste of time since I'm also washing after.

Note: If this wasn't the case, I personally would not give a damn who puts up/down the seat. But pissing burning lava and the other side effects of infections are fucking gross. No thanks.

Guys need the toilet seat down in order to poop, but not to pee. Girls need it to pee and poop. That means that 3/4ths of toilet actions between the two require it to be down. Therefore seat down (or lid closed) should be the default position in order for it to be efficient.

And if the 3/4ths thing isn't good enough, because people pee more than they poop, then here's this: women statistically pee more often than men do. Therefore out of all of the bathroom actions, the seat will statistically more often be down than up.

I'm all for equality and whatnot, but I feel that because of these reasons, if someone leaves the seat up, then I feel they should have put it down.
