Emotional communication means having the capacity to explain:

  • What you are feeling
  • Why you are feeling that way
  • What your partner can do to help/improve the situation

You can do this rationally, calmly, and in complete control.

Good emotional communication is the opposite of bottling up emotions, avoiding fights, pretending nothing is wrong, staying silent, or only vocalizing strong emotions to male friends.

In my experience, when women talk about showing emotion, they are actually talking about emotional communication, not crying in front of them or being depressed.
