(42F) Why are today's men even more disinterested in marriage than before?

42F here, genuine question — why do so many men today seem uninterested in marriage altogether? Not even “not yet,” but a hard no, even in their 40s. I’m not talking about rushing or ignoring red flags, just the idea of building toward something intentional. Is it fear, bad past experiences, dating apps, or has marriage just lost its meaning for a lot of people? I’m honestly trying to understand.

It's honestly quite frustrating that the advice I'm getting from women is just "go focus on your hobbies and get a roommate or a pet" like girl be fr, many of us women are aching for a male romantic partner and here you are talking about getting a mutt???

Anyway back on my main point this is definitely a generational thing because I asked my mom on the phone this same question a few weeks ago and she was surprised because she said back in her generation men were quite eager to get married because it was a symbol of manhood and status.

I recently watched a video by Marcia C Inhorn on YouTube about motherhood on ice and the mating gap and she said the same thing about how she's also confused about why men have a stark shift from their fathers generation about modern men not wanting to get married.

Does anyone have some information on this?
