I am seeing all these posts about men being blindsided by the woman after 10, 15, 20 years and the man saying “How could she do this to me, I did everything right in the marriage but she still left me for another guy” It’s time to face the music, we didn’t do everything right. We took her for granted, we stopped paying attention to her, we stopped really listening to her, we stopped buying her flowers or gifts, we stopped being ambitious at work, we stopped taking her on romantic vacations, we stopped being interesting, we gained weight and we didn’t dress well. Are any of those justifiable reasons for them to divorce us? In my opinion no, however women like to trade up, and we were easy to replace because we stopped trying and improving. If we were hard to trade up from, they wouldn’t have left us. How I got this epiphany is when I started dating I realized how much I had to step up my game and I also realized how much I stopped trying in the marriage because I took it for granted. I still paid all the bills, did work around the house, raised the kids, but they don’t care about that as much as they care about you being fit and still showing them a good time even after 20 years. I know this is a hard truth, but the divorce is our fault. I hope we learn this lesson and not repeat it, otherwise all this pain from the divorce will be for nothing.
