I noticed that he is given a lot of leeway due to his traumatic upbringing. It does sound horrific but imagine how many women and girls were in the same or worse situations as children and AREN'T out here causing the amount of pain and destruction that he did throughout his life. That being said he was able to channel this inner rage really effectively into his music, he was really talented. It's a shame that people are going to overlook how badly he treated his kids and the women in his life though. Edit: also how badly he treated animals.

I think its more of a society thing. Anyone who dies(with few exceptions) is given saint status when they die.

I will never understand why people are given so much value for being...dead. Why don't we value them when they're alive? Whey are their bad deeds erased when they die? Its undeniable that people who are dead, whether they were good or awful, will be given respect they never would have been given if they were alive. I will never understand that.

Like, they're dead. We all will die. It doesn't make people special. If you're a scrote imma call you a scrote even if you're 6 feet under.

For me, my empathy for DMX is in recognizing how toxic misogyny destroys male children before they ever get a chance to be decent, empathetic, functioning humans. He was a NVM because in his formative years other NVM irrevocably killed his spirit. This is very evident in all groups of men, but it is particularly so within the black community.

HOWEVER, and please don't mistake me, all of this understanding of WHY men end up shit does not diminish the damage that these shit men do to the women and children they cross paths with. I feel bad about the drug addicted, homeless, and helpless children that DMX once was, but I don't feel much of anything for him at the end of his life. He became the men that ruined him, and there are kids left behind that are vulnerable to this same type of soul destruction.

I feel terrible for Tashera. Even after divorce she never escaped the train wreck of this man's life. She was who he went to when he had health problems, got out of jail, needed to go to rehab, in between periods of impregnating other girls (he liked them much younger than him, of course). It seems that she, along with her adult children (all of his other 15+ kids are minors) will be the ones to sort through his affairs and the familial mess he left. And the cycle of dysfunction continues.

I scrolled a few other news posts about this when it happened and it was nothing but sympathy. Fucking why? I legit remember a single somewhat catchy song of his. Other than that I remember the homophobia and misogyny and crimes. The same people so sympathetic about his drug addiction turn around and talk the wildest shit about Demi Lovato's addiction and probably hellhole of a childhood being a Disney star. Addiction is a hard thing to beat and I have sympathy for that, but aside from that he seemed to be a terrible addition to this planet. Imo the universe did some much needed spring fucking cleaning.
