Story time! Asked a bf if he could handle making dinner 3 nights a week on the days I go to the gym (he didn't do anything after work, we had normal M-F 8-4 jobs), he said he has no idea how/what to cook/what groceries we have. I told him that he'd figure it out no problem.

He responds: "I'm sorry but I just was never taught how to cook. I don't know how. You probably won't even like what I cook so I don't see the point." When I mentioned that pasta, or a salad, or literally anything that simple would be fine (I'm a great cook so his dinners didn't have to be fancy, jeez), he goes "honestly, now you're just insulting me; I know how to make a freaking sandwich."

My ex never could apologize. He’d say “I wish we didn’t trigger each other”, or “I’m sorry I’m such a dick”, stuff like that. It was never ever “I’m really sorry I hurt you”. I’ve found that it’s hard for men to offer up an appropriate apology because it’s hard for them to be fully accountable for their actions. The blow to the ego is too much for them. Eventually they’ll resent you if you hold them accountable so it’s better to just look for a man who doesn’t consistently fuck up.

In my experience, they never do actually apologize. Some of my personal favorites:

"I'll see what I can do about it..."

"I don't know what you want from me" or "I don't know what you want me to do about it"

"I don't even know why we are talking about this. It's not getting us anywhere."

"I've had it so much worse than you" - or some variation of one-upping.

"Believe whatever you want"

This one’s the most passive aggressive and I hate it so much. He upsets you, you confront him about it, and instead of apologising for the behaviour/words that hurt you, he apologises for speaking, thinking he has tricked you into believing he’s apologised since he technically said the word “sorry,” but at the same time conveying the veiled threat that he won’t be communicating with you anymore if you get upset at what he says or does.
