You seem to be equating sexual experience with age.

I agree, in theory, that it's a better match for someone with more sexual experience to be with someone who also has more sexual experience. However, you seem to think that this directly translates to age, and therefore a woman with some sexual experience at 20 would be better matched with a man with the same sexual experience at 35 than with a man her own age, which is incredibly silly.

Either way, there is significantly more at play in a relationship than how much sex each person has had.

Boys your age get experience with girls your age - it's just not evenly distributed like communist rations. Just because YOU aren't getting experience doesn't mean NO one is getting experience.

And these relationships aren't "out of balance" because they're literally contemporaries.

Equal "dating experience" is not what indicates success in relationships. It's far more often affected by socioeconomic class, morals, beliefs and how a couple chooses to spend their time together.

Chicken and egg scenario. Most young women prefer to date guys their age or a few years older, rarely younger, which is why men often (but not always) are a couple years behind in terms of dating experience. These age gaps cause the difference in experience level at young ages. However, these are small age gaps and small differences.

Dating experience also isn’t the only type of experience that counts when it comes to maturity levels and compatibility. Someone who’s been living on their own and working for years is going to be in a different place in life than someone who just graduated high school. There are also differences in brain development when it’s a large gap and the younger person is under ~25.

There is nothing wrong with small age gaps, or large ones when everyone is a fully mature adult. However, saying “I’m a 30yr old virgin therefore it should be socially acceptable for me to pursue 18 yr olds,” does not work.

Come on, age gap relationships are not “more equal” than close-in-age relationships. And I say that as someone who has been in multiple age gap relationships lol.

There is SO MUCH that goes into life experience beyond specifically relationship experience. We are, all of us, a product of the environment, including time period, that we grow up in. And all of our experiences shape us.

Is there a disparity in relationship experience between the two hypothetical people you described? Yes. There are often disparities in relationship experience between two partners because unless they’ve only been with each other, no two individuals’ experiences are the same.

That doesn’t mean that relationship experience is the only experience that matters in relationships though. General life experience, their childhood and family relationships, whether or not they’ve lived on their own, job/career experience, etc., all play into how someone might show up in a relationship.

And in an age gap relationship, most often the older party has the above experience to a much higher degree.

I've experienced none of this. Every women I met who was younger than me was immature. My wife is exactly my age. When we met, she had more money saved in the bank than me, but I had more potential money to make because of the time I put into my career. Once I matched what she saved, we shared accounts, etc. Our maturity was/is pretty equal, we just have different perspectives, me masculine, her feminine.

My girlfriend before her was way younger than me, had far more dating experience than me, and was immature beyond belief.

It’s overlooked because relationships arnt the only way you grow in experience in life. Let’s say theres an 18 year old girl who dated boys in high school who were the same age as her. How does that translate to her having the same life experience as a man in his late 20s who didn’t date as much?

With the exception of highly illegal relationships, most guys have similar experiences with girls too.

And even Im not sure if girls are more likely to have illegal relationships, since boys refuse to acknowledge female predators……and men encouraged this thought process.

Relationships are never equal anyway, so why does this matter to you? Age has nothing to do with this either - you prefer sexual inexperience because it matches your inexperience, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Relationship "equality" has more to do with financial standing, knowledge, life readiness, social class, political leanings, religion, etc.

Just because he hasn't dated many times before doesn't mean he hasn't experienced life way more than she has. Being an adult in the adult world is an experience no matter how good or bad you have it, how social or anti social you are. A person under the age of around 25 or so has very little experience being recognised as an adult in the adult world with a fully mature brain.

It's not okay when either party uses superior maturity or experience to manipulate.

If you're 30, unless you are developmentally stunted to a clinical level, you're more mature than an 18yo. Maybe you don't have relationship experience, but you've held a job. You've learned how society works. You're likely financially independent and responsible for yourself. You've probably seen death in your close circles. You've established your personality and habits and values and priorities.

Maybe she still has power over you if you're naive and sexually inexperienced, needy, lonely, etc. And it's not okay to abuse that power and use you. But that doesn't make it okay for you to look for someone you could outmatch in a bunch of other ways to "even the playing field" and manipulate each other successfully. Relationships shouldn't be a power struggle where you're looking for a partner you could dominate in some ways in order to compensate for areas where you're afraid of being dominated.

Why is this still so overlooked in the discussion?

For one thing, I don't think most teenage relationship experience really means that much in Adult World. I mean, you're living with your parents, socializing in little cliques, going to school for a living, and both you and your partner are dating literal children, usually for very short bits of time and in highly temporary, fluctuating times in your life and development. That doesn't prepare you for a grown-up relationship.

For another, the proposed experience gap between young men and women is plausibly only a few years. If it takes a man 10 more years to catch up to a 22 year-old woman, there's probably other issues to address.

And I say this as a fan of age-gap relationships. This just isn't the best argument.

Some young women get turned on by older men, that’s their sexual preference. Often the older guy has a better lifestyle than the younger guys too. Age gap relationships aren’t weird or manipulative. I’ve dated and had relationships with women my age and current 20 years younger. Not much different same age or younger.

Usually the issue with age gaps is women being resentful that men prefer younger women. Doesn't matter how smart she is what she's accomplished etc a women in her 40s can never compete with a woman in her 20s.

The guy is going to choose the 20s woman every time.

Works the other way for men, some men get more attractive as they get older. Men mature like fine wine, women mature like yesterdays McDonalds.

You can probably understand why women wouldn't be happy with that.

Another thing everyone forgets: women have the benefit of dating players.

The reason women accrue experience much faster and earlier in life is that they can get it handed to them by players.

I saw someone say where did girls get the experience if not with guys so aren't both gaining it?

Well one player hits on a 100 girls, which means 99 boys get no experience, whereas a 100 girls do. This is a big source of the experience gap.

Due to being asked out and approached so much more, they accrue experience much faster.
