I do think male pills will be used mostly by men with long-term partners, who can't or don't want to take pills themselves. But there are also enough men getting casual sex, who, hopefully, would use the pills themselves instead of relying on a woman's word that she's on a pill.

Don’t studies show that male both control is more effective and has less side effects than female birth control. If a man doesn’t want to shoulder the responsibility of kids either while sleeping around or in an LTR why won’t he? Some women suffer such bad side effects that they simply can’t take contraception safely. They have to rely on a man always wearing a condom. And if your in an LTR and on the same page about not having children, I don’t see why the the man can’t be on it the woman not (for the reason I stated above).

For the argument that you wouldn’t be able to tell if a man is in birth control… you can’t tell if women are on it either unless you route through someone’s medical records so I don’t know how this is even a counter argument. Unless it’s eluding to how men with will lie about literally everything for sex.

You realise that the main use of birth control (besides, arguably, condoms) isn't hookups, right? It's used in relationships. The vast majority of men are or will be in relationships for significant portions of their lives and generally are in a position there where their partners can trust whether they're lying about contraception or not. The whole point is that you can choose various things about birth control options including choosing a different person to use it, although I agree that more often than not men will keep expecting women to shoulder that burden. Birth control generally messes with women's hormones screwing up their sex lives too, so I guess you just choose who deals with them. (And aren't you men on here a always going on about your much higher drives? Seems like lowering them would be better for you than women.)

It depends, there are some men who don't want to have children and/or are afraid of being baby trapped by women, or men who simply want control over when they have children instead of trusting a woman to only get impregnated when he wants her to be.

However, men don't really "need" birth control. They can simply walk away and abandon their children, as they've done since the dawn of time if they don't want children. Being a deadbeat has always been and will always be an option.

Fact is, most guys will never be in a position to have casual sex with strangers on a regular basis. And male birth control will cost money. Guys won't get it for free. I've known a girl get pregnant very conveniently when her boyfriend got a base level public service job in another city and didn't offer to take her with him and it looked like the relationship would fizzle out. First holiday when he came back to visit family. Ooops...now he gotta beg for a transfer home. Not every baby trap is about money.

Baby traps aren't as common as many men fear they are...the majority of women think it is a foolish choice... but there are many circumstances in which it is blindingly obvious that a sudden pregnancy would suit one person just peachy. She's says she's been told she is infertile and so does not intend to use contraception? Ooooh boy, you need to use something.

I think the idea is to create a pill that does not lower testosterone, but it is hard. Testosterone is very useful for so many things beside just libido and fertility. It would actually be better a pill to lower libido without lowering T, but that will never happen because society need desperate men spending stuff in trashy women in hopes of getting sex, also working extra to pay for stuff for their cheating gfs.

I do wonder why so many women not having sex as often still take birth control pills that change moods and have side effects.

Women who hook up also don't have as much sex as people believe. They hook up with a guy once or twice a month, maybe more if they become close. Women rarely hook up with other men meanwhile.

Only demographic having sex with some more frequency are couples, and also men that are top 10% and have multiple women rotating for sex.

So why are women taking birth control since they are 16, having no sex for months, and moaning about the side effects? Just ask the guy to use a condom. Women can easily go months without sex, what is the point of taking pills in that period?

You don't have to worry about getting a girl pregnant if you're just hooking up. If you're having one night stands, you don't know which woman is and isn't on BC.

You don't have to worry about a woman trying to trap you with a kid by going off her BC and not telling you.

If anything the problem with male birth control will be men taking too much. There's gonna be plenty of guys out there going, "I'm gonna double up just be extra safe".

Most Men aren't conscious of their testosterone and I highly doubt they care because it doesn't reflect their own idea of manliness. Testosterone as an idea of "manliness" is pretty recent.

men do get sex at frequent rates, it's usually older men in comparison to young men. Young men don't get much sex because they are at a time of their life where they are inherently just not valuable in society's eyes aka stable job and experienced.

Lastly even if a man doesn't go through pregnancy he will still have to take responsibility for a child enforced by society.

Companies typically will put focus on one demographic to gain repeated customers and other options will become niche. Like female condoms exist but they aren't promoted despite them being an alternative to pills and surgery. Meanwhile men are encouraged to use condoms.

I think the best example of how influential this is would be the gaming industry. Games are encouraged to be played by boys during its beginning when it could have equally been used by girls. Companies just choose boys and market it towards them. Now gaming is male dominated when it could have easily have been pandered towards females.

If male birth control existed in pill form:

Conscientious men that had a lot of casual sex would benefit from it. Hell, conscientious men in general would benefit from it. Those who are average or low conscientiousness and forget to take it regularly wouldn't benefit much.

The real highly effective stuff is essentially a set-and-forget thing...if there was some kind of implantable male BC or depot injectable BC, that would be pretty potent.

No. The reason would be so that you are both using birth control. Any doctor worth their salt would highly suggest using two forms of birth control to make up for the failure rate that is automatically higher when you only use one. Since men really only have condoms or vasectomy as their choice of birth control, I assume that is why my gyno told me the best way to avoid accidental pregnancy was to take the BC as directed AND USE CONDOMS because if the birth control fails, a condom likely won't.

Flip that, and if she isn't using any form of birth control and the condom breaks, everyone would be a lot less worried if she were because her chances of getting pregnant are high for 3-5 days/months and most people don't track their ovulation cycle unless they are actually trying to conceive.

So if it were important to you to take every precaution in avoiding accidental pregnancy for both of your peace of mind - and assuming this is in the bounds of a relationship - it would be a way to make sure you can ejaculate inside whenever you want with very little to no worry that your sexual partner would become pregnant.

But if you're suggesting that men don't use birth control commonly, they absolutely already do. Condoms are birth control. Granted, only men who are sexually responsible wear them unprompted and without complaint, but it is not nearly as uncommon as you think. Not doing so would be putting yourself and your partner at risk of much more than just accidental pregnancy if both parties aren't getting STD tested beforehand before you go in raw.

Sadly for the many women who do want to avoid sexually transmitted infection or disease, certain types of men who walk around trying to fuck just don't carry around a condoms or consider the sexual health of their partner or themselves as being important.

The rest of your post is basically just "Birth control for men won't ever be commonly used because I don't see any use for it that directly benefits me without expecting me to be even partially responsible or accountable for consequences of my actions." Just a big complaint about how women are already doing it, so why would men?

There are plenty of dudes that are sexually successful who would love to have the peace of mind in knowing that they can almost all of the time, ejaculate inside a person with and infinitesimally small chance that person will become pregnant.

Also, people lie about being on BC. I personally would not trust a random man who said he was on hormonal birth control to be telling the truth, but that would be irrelevant bc I don't and never have been one to let casual hookups ejaculate inside me or even come near me without using a condom.

What happens if she says she's on BC but isn't? Wouldn't you feel more secure if you knew your chances of getting her pregnant were close to 0% in the event she is baby trapping you? A rich dude can afford a kid. What about someone poor who can't afford to be a father? Do you see no benefit in making the smart choice of avoiding knocking someone up with the means you have available to you?

If you are one of the men I spoke of who don't like/want/see the reason to use a condom, than none of what I've said would matter - because that is the easiest form of birth control in existence so someone who doesn't usem them likely would not see the reason to use hormonal birth control either.

The actual reason (hormonal) male birth control doesn’t exist is pharmacological. The amount of hormone suppression needed to make a man infertile would also turn him into a hermaphrodite. However in women, you can manipulate hormones enough to stop ovulation without destroying the female sex drive (general statement, hormonal BC affects women differently).

Now men themselves can and would take birth control that was relatively safe and reversible, like current female hormonal BC. Vasectomies are already a thing and roughly 10% of men over 30 have had one. This is an invasive, (mostly) irreversible, expensive procedure. If male hormonal BC was available it’s safe to assume it would be commonly used. CDC reports that 25% of women use BC (14% on pill, 11% IUD or other physical BC), the male uptake could get there easily.

Men share the same reasons as women for taking BC: no need to worry about an accidental pregnancy. Unlike women, male BC wouldn’t impact lifestyle the way BC does (reducing or eliminating periods etc). However men have an incentive women don’t: it would virtually eliminate the possibility of getting baby-trapped or having to pay child support for an unwanted kid. Hormonal BC has absurd effectiveness rates of 99%, unless a guy was very unlucky he couldn’t impregnate a woman unless intentional. All discussion of financial abortions and male reproductive rights would change overnight since women would have no way of turning an unwilling man into a father.

For this final reason some women and feminists will forever oppose male BC, at least until child support laws are overhauled in the US

Male birth control is clucking yourself. Men do the predominate physical work in the workforce, which requires endurance and muscular strength and the ability to recover. Hormonal birth control is just taking progestin and androgen or estrogen in order to shut down the HPG axis. It’s intentionally giving yourself hypogonadism AND azoospermia, which is a raw deal. In more than one way.

Unless you’re taking enough of it to increase your androgen load above baseline, in which case you’re just running anabolic steroids, and there will be other types of health consequences long term if this is the case

What about the time a woman gets 35+? It’s the time when birth control becomes increasingly dangerous due to thrombosis risk. At the same time, it becomes more and more probable to have children with disabilities. My partner and I for once agreed to switch if a male contraceptive becomes available. Only because I can take the pill safely now, at 26, does not mean it’s safe forever

All I have to say is this. If men reject male BC then they don't get to cry, piss, and moan about "baby trapping", "financial abortion", and unplanned pregnancy. TWO forms of BC are almost fail proof while ONE form OFTEN leads to pregnancy with perfect use because it has a failure rate that you aren't even trying to mitigate from your end. If you refuse to take BC, wear a condom, or even pull out you are risking BC failure rates and can't cry about it when you become a statistic later on down the road. Don't want to wear a condom or take a pill then don't cry about the child support you directly caused yourself because YOU weren't doing EVERYTHING you COULD DO for YOURSELF to avoid that situation. At the end of the day men are responsible for thier own sperm as much as women are responsible for thier own egg. Both people are supposed to be responsible for thier own protection. It's not on the woman if she was taking responsibility while you did not.

Commonly used, probably not. But the numbers of men taking care of it is increasing for some emerging methods, giving some kind of hope that it will be more and more popular in the next years
