I would never want the child aborted. I would absolutely be a single father, but not to a child of another man that my wife cheated on me with.

I can see two scenarios:

The woman decides to go through with the pregnancy, completely disregarding my wishes or feelings, and then decides she ultimately doesn’t want the child either. In this scenario, I’m giving the baby up for adoption.
The two of us wanted to have children but after giving birth the woman completely changes her mind and wants nothing to do with neither me nor the child. Here, I would of course raise the child on my own.

I would raise the child with my parents. It wouldn't change much because my mom and dad, both of whom are retired, would have plenty of time to give the child and would even enjoy it. I would visit them everyday to see my child. It would be ideal if the child's mother could visit him/her every once in a while, but that isn't strictly necessary either.

The interesting part of this scenario is that she is making me choose between a relationship with her or keeping/raising my kid.

I would pick my partner over my child. In any case chances are the kid would be better if taken care of by people that want to be parents. Even if that is not the case I am not throwing away a LTR after the hell required to get one.

Now if she is out of the picture anyways and my options are to either keep the kid or leave him to be adopted then that changes the equation. There is no scenario in which I keep the relationship so now the only consideration I have is the well being of the child.

I would spend a good time looking at the statistics of people that went through adoption in my area and if I don't like the odds I would keep the kid and try to give then something better than the average life that he would have gotten if adopted.

I would not accept any money from the mother. If she did not consent to being a mother then she should have no obligation.

Too many variables untouched by OP in this hypothetical scenario for me to give a blanket "yes" or "no" answer.

But, I'll say that I'd instinctively want to do it. The idea of my heart appealing to the matter is definitely there, for sure. Not certain if it'd make (comforting) sense to do it but, again, it's a case-by-case basis. I'd hate to be the second consecutive person (she or anyone else can take that as a shot at her or not LOL) to abandon the child, regardless of whatever decision I ultimately make.

Only if I thought I were able to do it. If I were lacking the money and time I doubt the child would be better with me than with an adoptive family, but I would at least try.

Absolutely. Honestly... it would probably help me to have someone whose future I needed to fight for. I think one of the things single men struggle with most is motivation. A lot of us seem to crave having someone else to struggle for and become demotivated when we're on our own. I don't mean "breadwinner" role or crap like that - at least not in my case. Just someone to fuss over and worry about them being 'okay'.

I didn't have children with my ex because I was worried about something like this happening. She turned out to be very flaky about this kind of thing. Honestly, now I almost think my life would be better if it had.

I'd also lot have less time for myself, which means less time for crap social media platforms like this one trying to make me feel like shit for the sex I was born as, which would be a big improvement already. 😛

Depends on how many weeks she's along. I would find the means to go out of state for an abortion and offer to pay for it if she agreed (I haven't considered myself pro-life/conservative for over a decade so not hypocritical).

If that was impossible or she's too far along, it would depend on the quality of life the kid would have. Since I can't breastfeed or WFH to take care of the baby, I'd be at a disadvantage & would probably go for adoption. If I happened to have the vast resources to raise it of course I would try. Maybe hire a nanny or midwife if those even still exist.

Becoming a single dad would be a train wreck for my life as it currently exists, but I think I would be able to find meaning in a life centered around a kid (even if it's not the life I picked).

The guilt in me couldn’t allow my son be an orphan so im fighting her aunt now to get custody of him.

Im now a single dad of the child i never wanted… FML🙂

I would raise my child. I don't even need to think twice about it. If she was willing to carry the baby to Term, I would take over all responsibility afterwards and never ask for a dime in child support.

This is a really weird scenario for two reasons. One, I don’t have unprotected sex during hookups and my partners always been on birth control or had an IUD. Second, it’s not really an analogous comparison because women have the choice for abortion while men don’t. In real life, the man would say he will not be raising the child and the woman will go through with the abortion

I think this is a good thought experiment for men who aren’t already pro-choice though, but responsibilities with pregnancies will always be lopsided because of biology

Again I can’t emphasize enough would be absolutely dumb founded if a women seriously carried a bandy gave birth and held & fed it, and went “I don’t want this”. Mothers almost always stay and protect their babies even when it’s killing them, it’s one of the things I respect and love about women

I don't know what would possess someone to make the decision to have a kid, yet not want to care for the kid. I wouldn't want to raise the kid alone so it might go to adoption, but maybe I would feel differently with the kid actually in my arms. Hard to say.

I would get a hell of a lot more serious about life to begin with. My sisters and my mom would definitely want to help since they like kids. They could help me babysit while I finish trade school and level up on my earning power so I can provide all that my kid needs and be present.

For a man, having a kid is a thing of existential pride that I think women take for granted and even disparage, it's literally the only human being (besides our own mother) we would sacrifice anything and everything for.
