Its a way they are trying to get you to qualify yourself to them. I would just keep it light and possibly lead. Answer her question with a question, get her to qualify to you.

You can also put the question on pause, tell her you will answer, but not before she tells you why she is a waitress, or wants to be an actress, or whatever qualifier you want to use. Flip the script and make her qualify herself first. Don't simply jump through her hoops. She's not the prize, you are.
