That insult only applies to places where being a woman means having almost no rights, where you can't have your own bank account, can't own property, and can't get jobs with a livable pay. Women used to be "desperate" to marry because they literally had no choice. It was either marrying any man with some money, or live as a slave, servant, prostitute or be plain homeless.

That's the kind of mentality these scrotes still have. They think us women should be "desperate" to marry in "fear" or being single forever, because just a few decades ago, and even now in some parts of the world, it was pretty much the only option for us. It's disgusting how they think we should still feel that way, and how entitled they feel to women "serving" a man.

The more I think about my single life, the more excited I get. I have an amazing career, one that I can take anywhere. If my job pisses me off, I have a skill and can now be in the same desk at my house and just switch, with no problem.

The more I think about people my age (31) getting married and how it seems like it’s our goal, the less I get excited about it. Five years ago, I was really jealous of the girls that “had it all figured out” and were well on their way to building a family. I desperately wanted to pick place settings and have my friends all admire my taste at a giant wedding. I wanted them to ogle my perfect husband and our love. Since that never happened, I’ve been thinking a lot about what exactly the benefit of all that is.

Perhaps the reason we wanted it was that it made us seem more put together, more mature, better, prettier, kinder, and all around more lovable than the other girls in our circle. The more I think about it, the more I begin to think that maybe it’s just a big game of marbles. Who’s got all the cutest pictures on Facebook? Who’s the youngest to have kids, who got the chance to be a young, hot mom before it was too late? The more I consider my existence here on the earth and the thousands of cities I haven’t seen or the millions of poems I haven’t read, or the hundreds of languages I haven’t learned, the more I think; what’s so special about getting married? Could it be that we’re all chasing after something to be recognized as good or worthy, when in fact we are already worthy within our own existence? If I don’t even know myself yet, what makes me think I would want to get to know the worlds within worlds of other people?

The more that I talk to older women, the more I realize that many of them wouldn’t get married again if given the opportunity. Not so that they can be “sluts” and have a bunch of sex, but so that they don’t have some man telling them how to spend their money, arguing with them about paint color, holding them back from doing everything from the most mundane things like buying a plant or more grandiose things like living abroad for a month.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that for a long time, my goal was to get married so that I could be married. The reason was so that I could start sentences with “My husband”. The reason was to give myself some importance in the world. I have come to realize that I don’t need to be married to consider myself important, be happy, be fulfilled, or anything like that.

Because the patriarchy has been digging it into our brains from a very early age that being single is somehow a failure on our part and that something must be wrong with us if we are not in a relationship with a man, especially by a certain age (where we are then seen as inadequate if we aren’t married with kids). This narrative benefits men greatly because it gives many unwashed asses the feeling that they are somehow a prize, so they then use it to try and insult us and threaten us that unless we put up with garbage we will end up unhappy, unfulfilled and will fail at life.

It might've been a valid threat a few decades ago, when we couldn't open bank accounts or sign a mortgage without men.

But now? Being single forever isn't such a scary idea, at least if you're privileged enough to live in a first world country where basic women's rights are afforded. I have no problems meeting my physiological and safety needs. I manage my own finances. Emotional needs are met through healthy relationships with friends and self. Sexual needs are valid, but even those can be met through, um, artificial means LOL ^{and without using another human being as a masturbation device!}

All my needs are met. I'm grateful for what I have and the life I've built on my own. Having a quality spouse is just a bonus on top of an already amazing life.

But some men just can't stand not being needed. Instead of just being like "hey good for you" and moving on with their day, they have to make that snarky threat to try and tear us down. It's sad really.

It is insulting and get sick pleasure out of seeing a woman cry, oops, go crazy. "Actually, I really don't want anything serious/don't want the relationship anymore, but you're really a nice person, let's be friends!"

Once upon a time, I had an ex tell me - in the same conversation - "You need to lower your standards" and "You really aren't marriage material". Admittedly, I cried. No one had ever said that to me, let alone someone I was so in love with. Weird, though, because in the same breath told me that, "When I come back, it's going to be for a future with you". I believed those words hook, line, and sinker. Did it ever happen? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

It's an odd world we live in when a guy like him hides behind his parents' divorce as the reason for his lack of success in his career and relationships. You don't have a pot to piss in, thus suck with money, and that translates to adding the person you are dating to the blame list for your own shortcomings? a single woman (and even worse, a woman who loves being single) is a threat to them.

they would even play matchmaker to "right this wrong". it reminds me of a Japanese movie in the 60s where the female character didn't want to get married and on numerous occasions said she was content like that, but her late father's 3 friends try to match her up with various men they know because they cannot fathom a woman choosing to be single (Late Autumn by Yasujiro Ozu).

being single and choosing to do so actively and consciously because there are no good options is a sign of self-awareness and self-sufficiency.

at this point, a single woman needs nothing that a man has to offer, because she is fast to recognize the things she needs and doesn't in a man. and let's face it, men these days have nothing over most women. in the past, women would marry as a form of ensuring their security. now, if you are a woman that has an education, a place to stay, a car or other means to get places, a good job or a sufficient source of revenue, a circle of good friends, good health and financial stability to satisfy certain wants and luxuries, you realize that you can be self-sufficient. your standards are higher in terms of partnership. you won't stay with a man because he has a car and you don't or because you're lonely without him because you have no friends and no hobbies. you will stay with him because compared with your own solitude, he is the cherry on top and he adds to your happiness.

I have always been concerned about men's intelligence. Instead of being an insult to women, "enjoy being single forever" is simply mocking at men's own incapability. More and more women would rather enjoy being single than letting trash men ruin their lives.

Many LVMs have been living a pathetic, hopeless and parasite-like life. Their genes coded them to be absolute garbage, and they are always desperately looking for the garbage collector that is willing to take them. Unfortunately, no sane woman wants to be that garbage collector.
