I think the answer is mostly subjective and that it’s extremely difficult to say. Sexual dimorphism suggests that looks are incredibly important for both sexes

Women spend hours on hair, make-up, and shaving various body parts. They also have a much wider range of styles of clothing, even for casual wear.

Men can often get away with a shave (or at least shaped-up facial hair) and making sure their clothes fit. Men’s fashion bores down to jeans/shorts and a shirt.

As a bi woman, I definitely find women more aesthetically pleasing. I notice women for their attractiveness much more frequently in public, even if they’re not my type, and I think it helps that women generally put more day to day care into their appearances. The most aesthetically pleasing men to me are the ones with softer and more feminine features. While I’m attracted to men with a fairly wide variety of body types, I think women are overall better at looking really pleasing from skinny to muscular to chubby.

I just think there’s something about the softness of women that’s really nice to look at. And boobs. Boobs are great and very appealing to look at, and women’s bodies tend to balance them well.

In general though, I think humans in general are pretty beautiful, and that definitely includes men.

From pure aesthetic point of view, naked and without any makeup or enhancements: young men in top shape with little fat have the most aesthetically pleasing figure for me. Muscle is more beautiful than fat and women naturally have more fat, which doesn't look so good when they're naked and moving. And a tall figure with broad shoulders and a slim waist, looks great.

People are saying women in this thread but I don't think that's true if you're comparing two peak, natural bodies (no makeup, clothes, etc). Men have naturally harder, more agile bodies and stronger facial/body features. People mix up sexual attraction with aesthetics a lot.

Similarly, if men spent as much time on their faces and bodies that women did, they would equally be of a superior aesthetic.

The Ancient Greeks were on to something.

women are def way more aesthetic - there is a certain artistic symmetry to the female body and a certain convergence that’s just pleasing to look at, and i’m attracted to both men and women - but for men i often find myself strongly considering what interacting with him would be like before truly being attracted, for women i can be attracted visually far more easily

This is highly subjective and is also influenced by culture. Nowadays the "ideal beauty" is generally considered to be a young, somewhat skinny woman with some curves. Ancient Greeks thought young, skinny men were the most beautiful. In the Renaissance people thought slightly heavier women with small boobs were the ideal (see for example paintings by Rubens).

Personally I think both men and women can be absolutely beautiful in their own way.

BF and I have a thing where we share beautiful people. 95% are women. It’s not caused by less exposure to male models.

Edit to add my weird thought: (lean and fit) women have the same visual aesthetic as horses to me, the fancy racing/dressage breeds. Men can have the same attributes (slim waist, prominent cheekbones) and not have “it” because they are either too muscular or “not fit”., or oddly shapes for a man. I’m not particularly fit right now but my female torso should be put into marble, and so should so many women I see every day.

Women are. Beauty is coded female almost universally. In places like Japan and Korea, this is more gender neutral, but not ultimately so.

I don't think women are naturally more aesthetic, though. It's mainly the standards we are held to, art, culture and media, which has typically been produced by het men, portrays and highlights beauty in (idealized) women but not men and the products and fashion at women's disposal.

I think beauty being coded female served men in the past, when powerful men got their pick of the litter and less powerful men could obtain wives through an income, but I think it is hurting men in the current market.

Male coochie objectively does not look good. Men just have a lot going on down there.

Female snatch does not look much better. I find human body pretty ugly. We have anuses, acne and body hair, all this junk stinks if not shaved/washed. That's why I have authority issues - I just keep thinking about how gross we all are.

A handsome highly fit man with good "muscle shape" (attachment points) stands above anyone else aesthetically IMO. It's a mix of power and beauty that dwarfs what women are able to achieve. T&A is nice but it's lust inspiring not really impressive in other dimensions. Most women and men are about facially equal sans makeup and hair with a modest edge to women on average, edged out by at the top % by men.

It’s difficult for humans to judge others humans on aesthetics alone, since our judgement is clouded by sexual attraction. I’m sure peacocks would call peahens the more beautiful sex as well.

I think that if you asked aliens (who shared out aesthetic sensibilities) which sex was more beautiful, they would say men.

Agree, women look better. Body hair on both women and men is great. Women shaving their legs looks alien, unhuman, cold, and slimy to me. Hair on your legs, armpits, and pubic area looks healthy and normal. But I haaaaate secondary sex characteristics such as chest hair and beards. Shaved beards are almost as bad as beards. I'm only attracted to feminine guys because femininity is prettier.

Neither, quite literally the human body plan is symmetric and familiar which in general is aesthetically pleasing. It's just a matter of how well one maintains themselves, society, and genetics so as to not get deterring features.

If one isn't sexually attracted to male or female genitalia they'll generally view it as an extra weird body part to look at.

In general women have been socialized to pay more attention to aesthetic enhancements (clothing, grooming, makeup, curating a style), so they are more likely broadly speaking to be the more fascinating aesthetically.

I think it's definitely subjective, personally I find men more defined and angular and women more soft and curvy. I generally prefer something in the middle but closer to the soft and curvy, so I usually find women more aestheticly pleasing. Speaking of just a naked physically fit human with nothing added. But I think both can be very aestheticly pleasing. Hormones and sexual attraction probably plays a big role in which you find more appealing, as well as culture. I've seen very beautiful men, but the ones I find beautiful are often considered more feminine in appearance. I don't find very "masculine" men physically appealing, but I can see how other people would, art is subjective after all! But the more defined and large stature, extra hair, etc that are considered more masculine are not as pleasing to my eye.

If we're including artistic additions (things like accessories, makeup, aesthetically pleasing clothing) I find women, at least where I live, to be like 5000% more aesthetically pleasing, it's rare for me to see a guy who decorates his body much or anything beyond basic. I love seeing people who look like walking art. But I don't think that necessarily has to be so gendered, it is in our culture but I don't consider it intrinsically linked to gender/sex. But, maybe it is? Maybe women are just more likely to decorate themselves? It's definitely linked to class, but I feel like there were times and cultures in which men with the means and livelihood also were very decorated. I do think decorating your body is a very intrinsically human thing, though, so I think it counts for something. Comparing the men and women I know, I find women are more likely to have a good eye for aesthetics. Not sure if it's natural, or if it's just because men who are too into aesthetics are often bullied in my culture (USA) because it's considered feminine.

David and "The Thinker" are two of the most famous sculptures. In ancient Greek/Roman temples there are many sculptures of gods, but when they are portrayed as aesthetic it's never fat. Fat women were sometimes displayed which would symbolize "fertility", so from the aesthetic view the only beautiful men were physically fit while beautiful women could be fat or toned.

But even now you see internet culture with Chad being portrayed as the aesthetic beauty.

Men all the way. Well taken-care of, healthy male body is peak aesthetic. Visually it is 100 times more appealing to me than woman’s is. Perhaps, it has to do with my sexuality as well. I am attracted to men, after all.

Same goes for facial features.

If a man knows how to dress, it’s through the roof. A tuxedo, or even some casual put-together outfit. I generally really enjoy men’s fashion.
