Men generally want a partner that is fun and easy to spend time with. Someone that's considerate and not too dominant. Someone that will give them love, affection and have their back. Someone that isn't too demanding and doesn't start fights/get passive aggressive over minor things. Someone they can have an active sex life with. Someone that will put some effort in her appearance

We want to feel desired and wanted by our partners, to be accepted for who we are (and no attempts to change us), and we want to be able to be vulnerable and feel emotionally secure/safe. I’d say those are good starting places

Most men i know and i talk with, want someone that will actually care about you, it is not the same as a friend. It is much more, it is a person that will ie. visit you at hospital and take care of your things while you're seriously ill, someone that is reliable, someone that you can trust and will have your back - a family. Trust and willingness to help each other go through the life is the most important for men - i think that many of us sometimes feel that we are only on our own and this is overwhelming, it is good to have someone to share hardships and good things in life. Ofc apart from that you need to like similar things, share similar values, have common vision of future life.

Most average men are happy with a woman whom he finds attractive, who is nice to him and who has consistent sex with him.

Men with options can be pickier, but if women just manage to be pleasant with men and seem sexually attracted to him, then men will be happy.

Of course, "being nice" doesn't mean that a woman should let a man walk all over her in the relationship, and women should walk away from these relationships. Average to below average men often hold grudges against the women who stay with more attractive men but then allow themselves to be mistreated.

Sex: an oversimplification of any and all physical displays of affection.

Sandwich: an oversimplification of any and all non physical displays of affection.

Silence: an oversimplification of any and all acts that contribute to a peaceful life inside the home.

Add monogamy and indeterminate duration in time and that is all men in general want from a relationship.

When you say "for the general population," do you mean that this is a question that should be answered on behalf of all men? Or are you asking what each man to state what they want individually?

I can answer what I would look for, but that may not be what all men want.

I was pretty happy in my previous relationship. We saw each other on weekends. I'd pick her up from her shift around 10pm, come back to my place. We'd settle down in bed and catch up on shows. Next morning, head out for breakfast (or brunch, if we slept in), do some kind of activity together like bowling or mini golf. Cook lunch, watch a movie play some games and then I'd take her home.

That was the weekend for a good few years for me and I couldn't have asked for more.

More time together than that and I think I would have gotten a bit stifled or antsy, I prefer alone time to decompress especially during the week - after work I don't have the energy to do much except recuperate.

The most important thing for me is for her to be sexually attracted to me and at least a 4/10 in looks, with no previous kids. Everything else is negotiable unless it’s something extreme that’s found in less than 2% of the population (criminal record, very low intelligence, major disabilities, psychotic, etc)

For me, I think of it in terms of what needs would I want someone else to fill the closer and closer they got to me.

Some needs are off limits completely because opening yourself up to another person to help meet those needs is suboptimal and harms the other needs being met.

Off limits

True Emotional vulnerability
Weakness, fears, doubts, uncertainty

For Partner

Sexual validation
Masculine validation; reckoning with your total value as a man and your traits skills, etc. for example if you have a high IQ and you are with a dullard, well, part of this will fail to be met, because dullards will never truly appreciate you, etc. (it'd be a fairly long list)
Loyalty and honesty
Accountability

Which is why you need to screen from the moment you meet or match with her for these qualities. In this order.

Men in everyday life are competitive to no end. We compete socially, we compete for women, we compete for status and money. So much of our lives is just proving to be worthy of what you want/have. So I think most men want someone, who is "home" for them. With whom it's safe. With whom you don't need to constantly prove that you are worthy. Who won't leave you in your weakest moments. Somebody, who will be there even if walls are crushing down. I think being able to trust your partner will be there even when you are broken as a man is the most important thing there is in a woman. That's why people say "she's a keeper". Keep people you love, your kids, your elders close, even when times are bad.

That explains all this talk of "loyalty" and success men being jaded. Because when they weren't successful, they were dirt. And when they have it all, people come. Who says they won't leave again?
