From what I understand, and this is not my opinion, it’s just what I’ve gathered on the topic.

There seems to be a power imbalance dynamic. Older men have more experience & wealth; versus a 18 year old who doesn’t have a car, ect.

I’m not oppose to it, I’m 24, so 🤷🏽‍♂️.

I don’t think being 29 and dating 21 is any issue, however early 20’s can be children. You say people act like they are somehow still children and a lot of times they are, it just depends on compared to who. If you are a grown man with a developed personality and some intelligence it is creepy to be with a 21 year old. 30 and 24 isn’t a big deal. And it’s not really that it’s creepy (that starts when it’s guys in their 40s and girls in their 20s), it’s that there is a huge maturity and life experience difference between 20s and 30s. And that’s because the human brain doesn’t finish developing until 25-27ish and you change A LOT during this time. It’s probably a reason people who marry AFTER 25 divorce less frequently.

So by dating someone before they fully grow and know who they are mentally and in life, you’re running the risk of trapping the younger person in a power dynamic that is unhealthy, and that the older person may not be aware of and the younger becomes aware of too late.

If you end up with someone with a large age gap naturally, without searching for it and knowing, it’s more likely to be a connection and not just something fleeting. Once you hit your 30s, dating is easier because dating someone else in their late 20s to 50s isn’t THAT big of a difference mentality wise.

The reason is because there is a pattern of older men preying upon younger women, that often results in the women being abused. Younger women are often more naive to a lot of problematic tactics that older men use to seduce them, and don't realize that they have been preyed upon until they've been victims of abuse.

For so long, it's been considered normal for young women and even young girls to be paired with much older men that it's becoming recognizable as a problem.

I get the impression this was a rhetorical question and more of an excuse for a rant rather than an actual search for answers. But the reason for this is the high rates of predatory and abusive behavior in males who seek out women much younger than them. In general the axiom holds true that if there's not something wrong with a man, women his own age would be willing to date him and he'd prefer to date them.

There are some exceptions, but it's not reasonable to expect everyone to expect you to be an exception. If you're taking it personally when people criticize older male predators, reflect on why that is and if it makes you upset because it applies to you.

Also it naturally squicks a lot of people out. I risk offending reddit's core demographic by saying this, but as someone in their 20's, people in their 30's seem more like your parents than possible partners. The older age is too noticeable in 99% of people. It's like dating a sibling: even if there's technically nothing morally wrong with it in some situations, a lot of people are going to have an innate visceral disgust toward it, and there's evolutionary reasons for that. It's stupid. It's always have been dating the same age plus/minus 1 to 3 years.

With modern dating it's been Older guys (30s) with 20s girls because of having better resources from the age. If 20 something guys can get into a relationship like it's the norm then feel free to drown out this hate.
