You don't need to have particularly high standards to get narrowed down to a small number of potential dates, you just need to combine 2-3 criteria. It's simply math.

If you use the male/female delusion calculator and want to exclusively date fat, poor and older men/women, that leaves you with quite a small percentage of people as only few fullfill all three criteria, yet nobody would call you picky.

As I've said before, social media fooled both genders into thinking that there was an overabundance of young, slim, and pretty women with no kids as well as tall, handsome, and rich men in the dating pool.

In reality, there's not. And both groups get paired up quicker than Usain Bolt.

But, partly due to social media visibility, both genders see themselves as the "exception" who will be able to find the partner who's out of their league through trial and error or sheer luck only for reality to set in.

It should be noted too that this is particularly prevalent online. Irl, working and middle class couples are full of average Joe's and plain Janes hooking up and starting families together.

Here in Texas, you'll see plenty of 30+ year old Pot Belly Bubba's with their Kelly Clarkson looking girlfriends and wives.

Your statement is correct that the desirable parameters for a woman yield an extremely small dating pool. But you've drawn two deductions from this that are incorrect:

You compared dissimilar age ranges of men and women. When men are in their early 20s and women aren in their early 20s, the women that those men are desiring are not in any top 20%. Early 20s women reject early 20s men when it's essentially a 1:1 open mating field.
Old, ugly, bald headed men have no illusion that an 18 year old playboy bunny is out of reach. There's no phenomena of "lazy 8" women who fuck ugly~mid men just because they need dick on a friday night. So we're never strung along by attractive women that randomly use us.

However if we're gonna go by your numbers, then I think that you misunderstand that while men prefer not to date a woman with a child who's not overweight, it's very clear that men are more flexible with these preferences than women. Now women are more flexible within the dynamics of the relationship, and I mean that they're more willing to tolerate more negative behavior from their partners, but getting them to date outside of their preferences is much more unlikely. It's hard to come up with these numbers though, since I don't think there's a reliable source for them just yet

Yep, this is pretty much it. Relatively few women or men are “eligible” by most people’s preferred standards. Of course if you are a top 5% person in close proximity to other top 5% people your chances will be greater. But if you throw in the other standards men here tend to have, like low body count, submissive, and the unstated but likely requirement of a somewhat pretty face, you’re looking at probably around 1% at most.

Obsessing over the highest tier of available partners? These men are obsessed with beauty and youth just like women are allegedly obsessed with status and looks.

Ignoring the sub-5 women when making broad generalisations? Men do this all the time. The "average" woman to them is probably college aged and quite pretty.

I've said this before, but these conversations really change when you realize all the frustration these men feel is because they are competing with each other for the same types of women, just like they accuse women of all fighting over Chad. Usually, it's a certain type of woman who is pretty looking, but also sort of invites the attention, drama and competition from other men into their lives. I have known women like this, and the men they have relationships with tend to also fall into a certain category. These are the types of people who make tiktoks and podcasts about how dating is fucked because nobody wants to settle and everyone is so picky, before they admit that they perpetuate the cycle themselves by never settling and having issues with avoidance and emotional unavailability. It's one of those examples of water finding its own level.

I’m over 40 and women over 40 are the same damn way. But overweight men are much more likely to date overweight women than the opposite unless he’s tall and strong looking. But those of us who are fit, really don’t want fat women unless they’re in the middle of doing something about it. But most don’t want to and have a million excuses. Meanwhile we’re fat phobic and misogynistic if we object.

I hear you and agree with your overall point.

That said, this (and how people calculate similar % for men) drives the stats nerd in me mad. It doesn't work like that when the variables are correlated, and they are correlated. Women without kids are less likely be overweight. Tall dudes are more likely to have higher incomes. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

In any case, folks with unrealistic expectations seem to be more likely to be single and unhappy about it. If only there was something they could do about it...

You can't just assume 50% of overweight women are childless or have kids because 50% of women are childless. There could be a correlation between these different variables. Maybe once they got married and had kids they let themselves go.

There are statistical tools to drill down into this data properly but ChatGPT ain't it.

Regardless of how your argument was constructed, I do agree the quality of the American dating pool is poor.

This is not a meaningful way of calculating hypergamy. We could, for example, add that if you want someone who is alive, then you are hypergamous because most people are deceased. If you want someone who lives within 500 miles of you, then you are hypergamous because most people live on another continent.

If I’m not dating fat old single mothers, I’m being hypergamous? Is that really how low the bar has fallen? All three of these traits are clear evidence of bad lifestyle choices and can be avoided:

Fat - Avoided by taking care of your body.

Single Mother - Avoided by not sleeping around.

Old - Avoided by not being picky and discriminating against men based on factors they can’t control while young.

Meanwhile women’s hypergamy revolve around guys being tall, having an attractive face, and making six figures, the first two which are entirely out of a person’s control and the last one being extremely difficult for most guys.

A lot of people view themselves as "average" because they are a certain height or have a certain bmi but average is not only a few features, but how you compare to others in your age across a range of physical and social features.

Some men only mention their height and bmi and take that as a sign that they are "average" and should be accepted by an average woman.

It doesn't matter if you are average height and bmi if you have unattractive features in your face (balding/ acne or bad skin/ bad teeth/ disproportionate or unsymmetrical features) or social life (below average educational or career attainment/ lack of friends/ negative personality traits).

Most people (men and women) are not completely average across all metrics and finding someone who is average in a way that is acceptable to you is the main difficulty of dating for most "average" people.

The thing you missed is overweight and being childless are factors you can control but you can't control height, 6 figure money, and 6 inches. To add here is what I got.

According to the United Nations, in 2020, young people accounted for 33% of the global population². However, this statistic includes all individuals under the age of 20, not just those in the 18-35 age range. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the exact percentage of the total world population in the age range of 18-35. The second source puts individuals in age range of 15 to 24 in 2 billion out of 8 billion. Considering both sexes are equal in numbers and assuming same distribution of 2 billion in age range of 24-35, we have 4 billion out of 8 billion (2021 data).

So instead of delving further, based on this data and your data (which I didn't double check is still about 15 percent. The so called delusion calculator puts the 666 at like less than 1 percent from the videos on YouTube in the US. Considering US has the highest millionaires in the world, that is still quite low. If we take the whole world then it drops significantly.

Considering equal amount of both sexes, if we use the 1 percent against the 15, the former is about (taking 8 billion for ease of calculation) 20 million and latter is 300 million. I wouldn't say we are hypergamous.

All women are young at one point in their life, all women can become thin, and all women can have a nice personality. That’s like 75% of being an attractive woman there and it’s within their control.

The things that make men attractive are determined at birth and are not within their control at all.

I think this skews the ratios of desirable mates quite a bit

That could be true if it is a fat 50 year old man with kids who only wants a 21 year old skinny woman with no kids. But it is completely reasonable for, say a 21 year old fit man with no kids, to want a non-morbidly obese woman around his own age with no kids.

And, frankly, if the 50 year old fat guy with kids can find a 21 year old skinny woman with no kids who likes him, then who is anyone else to tell them no?

Men also don't have to choose women they don't want anymore than women have to choose men they don't want. People here always talk about some women would rather be single than settle for a man they don't want. Well the same can apply to men. Maybe some guys would rather be single than settle for a woman in her 40s with baggage.

Finally, assuming the demographic figures you gave are accurate, they just support the view of men who feel the need to go abroad to find better dating prospects.
