Some dude is under the impression that men spend a fortune wooing women by paying for all their dates.

I'm in the UK and the standard is that you go to a bar for a couple of drinks and if things go well you kiss or have sex. Then you plan a second similar date and if this continues to go well - a relationship happens.

It's not just the childishness of female IoI's that makes it unwise for a man to make the first move. It's not even the real threat of getting called a creep because you're making the first move while not good looking enough. It's not even the fact that women don't even like being approached.

The real and most unavoidable problem with a man making the first move is he automatically and instantly gives her all the power. It doesn't matter if he blows off the rejection and doesn't take it personally. That's irrelevant. He has automatically fed right into her life of suitor abundance. He is just another contestant at the wheel of fortune, another Katniss Everdeen playing in President Snow's game. He has automatically given her validation, he has already from the get-go let her know that she is desired by men at least of his level of quality, he has shown that he is willing to put out more effort to woo her than she would ever put out for him. Being the chooser means nothing unless he is one of very few. Being the chooser when it comes to approaching women actually costs a man because he is always just yet another one in the contest for her affections. By approaching her he has automatically and instantly told her that there are probably other men of his level of quality that want her, and she is automatically encouraged to shop around to see if she can get better.

Thus all men who initiate a courtship with a woman have automatically and instantly lost even if he wins, because the woman knows immediately that she can get at least him or better. And she is in a position to pit him against other men of his caliber to get the best option for her. She wins that in 100% of cases, he loses even when he wins, because even then she is fueled by validation and the truth that she can always find better. She is in no way invested in you. Guys like to say they're not invested in the woman they're approaching but this is delusional - if they weren't, they wouldn't waste their time. And therein lies the point - she never wasted her time coming up to you, you spent the time to approach her. She knows she has all the power here. She can tell you to fuck off knowing full well another man just like you will come along... or a better man. You literally set the bar above your level the moment you approached her. And that is why you lost.

Rant: Culture, society and biology have made dating younger women better in almost every way for men but marrying younger forces men to marry down in finances.

A man either lets a younger woman mooch off his money and hard career work or marry an older woman (a relationship which society has made suboptimal for men). The problem is that the man can't retire early while his younger wife keeps working to make the finance situation fairer.

I was reading that post today about phosphine gas on Venus being a potential biomarker, and the top comment started off with "Astronomer here!" which, swap Biologist for Astronomer, is exactly how Unidan would begin every parent level comment he made, down to the excessively eager usage of exclamation points.

I see this convention a lot and I always wonder if its a conscious homage to Unidan, or if its just become a deep custom of reddit nerd culture whose origins are now obscure.

Because of course later Unidan would be disgraced due to his hilariously petty vote-manipulation scheme to boost his own prominence and cling to his reddit celebrity status. I wouldn't say I'm an NFL fan, being British and not really an expert on the game. But I have enjoyed watching the RedZone in previous years. I know that the purist's way is to watch a full game, but I find that really entertaining, and it's a good way to learn about all of the teams and players.

However, sport without fans leaves me a bit cold, so I haven't really been watching anything recently.

(I wanted to use to the term "fair" but that would only bring up arguments about it's existence in general so I am using term "intellectually honest" instead... This might not work but I'm gonna try use it anyway so bear with me here...)

Right, so I know what PPD is and I understand it's inevitable that people are going to use generalisations of different groups of people as part of their arguments and points.

But what I've noticed that conversations or debates typically fall flat at the moment one makes an argument including generalisations of a group that an individual member of that group expresses they don't emobody those generalisations (especially when those generalisation are painting that group in a bad light).

What then typically follows after that is the person who initally made that point involving said generalisations then gives a sort of backhanded "well, tough because most members of the group you belong to do X so you're going to lumped in there with the rest of them" response as if somehow it should be a given that one should be subjected to their group's negative baggage.

Do you think it's "intellectually honest" to subject an individual you are debating with to their identified group's negative baggage even if they aren't actually part of generalisations individually?

I really don't believe in the whole idea that looks matter for men. Once you pass a certain arbitrary level of attractiveness, any girl is within reach. I'm not particularly good looking, I'm pretty tall but skinny and I've gotten interest from girls who look like theyve been moulded by the Greek gods.

Men, believe in your sauce. If you're charismatic and funny any girl is a potential.

So, I really do think I am fair-minded, and I do believe a perusal of my comment history on PPD would generally support that assertion. I, of course, have a bias (as do we all) and that bias is signaled through my flair.

Having said that, I don't want to be accused of whining, but... I have noticed a rash (for lack of a better word) of posts over approximately the last two weeks that are getting removed after about an hour or a little less. There is, I admit freely, a selection effect: I'm only noticing the posts that I comment on. But, the other thing that I seem to detect with these posts is that, frankly, RP is "winning the argument."

I will say that all of them have/do technically break the broad rules in the sidebar. But, I also think they have managed to start good discussions, and in some cases have sort of left the OP behind as incidental or, at least, not the central argument.

Whining ended.

So I figured out that my previous stint of what I considered to be depression might have been due to my poor diet and lack of minerals. I started supplementing with Vitamin D, an estrogen detox that has zinc, an ionic trace mineral liquid supplement, and making sure I get near the RDA of potassium and I feel a notable difference in my energy levels and mental state. I actually feel like exercising, waking up at a decent time, and going out and doing things during the day.

What positive changes have you made for your health lately?
