It's bait. For attention, particularly negative attention that she can use to get... even more attention. If people "objectify" her by passing the video around, talking about it, laughing at it, and treating it as porn instead of art, she gets to point and accuse the world of not taking her rape story seriously, and victimizing her again. It's like, sitting there bent over with your bare ass out with a sign "please spank me I'm a naughty girl!" ... and then crying sexual assault when somebody walks by and spanks you.

Edit: That's a really cynical view based on her history with this case so far. For some healthy devil's advocacy, a video like this could serve some valid awareness raising purposes. I don't think this video is going to actually do that, but there we are. Some sexual assault is very hard to prove, and that really sucks for the victims. I really do feel for somebody who is in a position where they've been sexually assaulted, but have no way to substantiate their claims. For example, what the video is trying to show, an encounter that begins with consensual sex that turns into a sexual assault when one party refuses to stop when asked. That situation would really suck. But what do we do about it? What some groups want to do in response to sucky situations like that is make an accusation synonymous with proven guilt. And that's not acceptable.

Please read my whole comment before deciding if you'll censor it, even if you don't like it. Skim if you must.

Emma, most people who have read up on your life (and you have opened yourself up to the public eye in all of this; indeed that has been your purpose) knows that you remained friendly with your alleged rapist after the rape and that there is good reason he was not convicted. In all likelihood, it strongly looks like you falsely accused him and are ruining his life so that your life can be artistic and interesting. Politically savvy? Sure. Are you a smart lady? Yeah. Are you garnering mass approval and immunity from human responsibility by waving a victim flag? Probably. And using the helpless female trope to further your ends is actually un-feminist.

This ideology is ingenious because it makes it so that anyone who disagrees with you is an "oppressor" and a part of "rape culture." The alleged victim is always right because the world SHOULD be safe (it SHOULD be but it isn't); we can throw out due process and burn all alleged rapists at the stake. This is the response you are asking for.

The real question isn't whether or not our justice system is perfect or that human existence is perfect. Obviously no. The real question is this: Are you going to censor my comment just because it doesn't contain the rape speech you are looking for?

Actually watching the video changed my mind about it. For those who haven't seen it, it presents a situation that clearly ends up as a violent traumatic rape, but that would never result in a conviction in real life. It doesn't present easy answers, and her disclaimer is clearly done in a self-aware and self-critical way. I have no idea about anything else she's done -- just talking about this art piece on its own. I was impressed, and I think it will stay with me for a long time.
