Not divorced yet but headed that direction. My band has a couple small diamonds in it. We have two boys. My thought was to take it to a a local jeweler and make a pendent with the gold and diamonds, for each of the boys that they could put on a necklace. Their mom and my's marriage is an important part of their lives and for me, that is a better option than letting it sit in a drawer or selling it.

Why keep it? Are you planning to remarry? That ring is nothing but a social construct that made you spend a few thousand in a symbol. Don't turn it into an altar to your failed marriage. Make it money, and put that money with the rest. Do not buy something just with that money so you don't re-create that symbol. Let it go

Sold it to an online gold buyer. I still had an emotional attachment when I shipped it but now I have a feeling of mental freedom. Gotta get rid of every attachment in order to move on.

she didn't want to spend the money i guess and i never bothered her for it as i don't really wear jewelry anyway.

i don't know what she plans to do with hers, probably store it together with her other ex husbands ring, kinda like a little trophy case of lives she likes to ruin

I think you guys are all gonna love this story, so the divorce was upon us (she cheated) and I looked at my stbxw, and told her that I would like the wedding ring, I gave her originally back, she flipped her lid! Told me she couldn’t believe that I would ask for such a thing, and that she was going to give it to my daughter on her wedding day, I looked her dead in the eye, and laughed and told her that that ring was cursed! It was cursed from the day I put it on her and why would she want to spread that to our daughter? I knew it was a longshot, but I thought I would take it. I was just gonna end up ping it anyway, never got the ring! Lol in my wedding ring? I pawned it.

I gave mine to a homeless guy. He can go buy drugs with it. Selling it for money implies that I thought there was some kind of value in it. I wouldn't even want to get money or booze with it, it would seem that that would also be tainted.

I kept mine. It's not worth much, because I saved money on myself to get her platinum, diamonds and sapphires. She told me she would save hers for our daughter. I may toss mine somewhere, it was always a thought. Just wait for a clear head before making a decision.

Do you have kids? I had the same dilemma regarding a box full of wedding, Momentos, and photos. A friend advised that I not throw it away, rather store it somewhere for my sons. Sometime later, I agree that it may be important to them someday.

Be cautious of taking advice from a group of misfits on Reddit. (shout out to dog_fart_tacos !)You will find men that wish they could delete out of their life the years that they were married. They will tell you to throw it in a river. You will find men who are sad their marriage failed, and still cherish the memories. They will tell you to store the ring away in a safe place. The only thing that matters is how you feel. My only caution would be to be careful of making a rash decision based on how you are feeling in one moment. Take your time. You don’t have to make a decision today.

Chucked it in the ocean on the southernmost tip of New Zealand’s South Island. I live in New England USA. Figured it’s about as far away from me as you can get. The whole trip (Australia, NZ, and Singapore) was about 2 months after it finalized and was a celebration of my new life getting rolling… it seemed fitting.

Sold mine wedding ring #1 to buy my #2 wife’s wedding ring. I didn’t need the cash but did it out of principal. Like if it was a 2.0 model I had now instead of 1.0. Worked out well and I chuckle over it every now and then.

I have a bank safe (for original documents like birth certificates etc. in case of a fire, I'm a bit paranoid), I put it there.

Our wedding rings were made from an iron meteorite (cool idea, never paid off enough though, couldn't see the Widmanstätten pattern very well after a while due to skin oils etc.) so materially it's not worth much, so selling it isn't an option.Kept it for now because I couldn't bring myself to throw it away (it still cost a bunch, fantastic way to waste money ...).

Also, who knows if our daughter wants them one day, maybe make something from them , although I guess not ("hey dad, could I have your wedding ring from when you were married to mom 10+ years ago?").

Just had a thought: Might make a bit of a "thing" off it. Throw it into a local river on the 1st anniversary of the divorce. Yeah, maybe doing that.

It was a good 1 ct diamond ring that cost thousands. But I don’t care so I didn’t ask it back. For all I know she can do whatever she wants with it and I would really really hope she’d spend at least a little portion of it on our daughter

I’ve been thinking about reshaping my ring into a ring that says “Dad” on it. I think that’s a pretty darn great idea actually. I feel proud to be a father. And kinda naked/weird not wearing a ringing despite being divorced because I technically still “feel” married. So this idea fulfills a few things that are personally important to me, the most being a Dad, through the shitstorm that is divorce.

If you had a $400 stack of cash left over from your marriage, would you toss it in the river? No! If your wedding ring is gold or platinum, it is money.

Either, 1) sell it 2) keep it in a drawer for later 3) take a jewelry class (where you will have mostly female classmates), and make it into something else.

If your ring is cheap like tungsten or titanium, toss it.

I'm a private pilot. After the divorce I bought a small plane (dream of mine for 20+ years). I threw the ring out the window of the plane (over an unpopulated mountain). Just felt right :)

I thought about selling it, but it didn't feel right and I wouldn't get much. I thought about leaving it out for someone to find, but then thought it's a wedding band most people wouldn't want to keep it. And the bad people would trade it for drugs 🤷‍♂️ Didn't want to curse someone I love just in case curses exist by giving it to them. So out the window it went.

She cheated, so it only represents vile things to me. I threw mine in the river. Her engagement and gold wedding ring, I will sell it, and put it in my children’s education fund. At least some good will come from it.
