I'm sorry if this sounds silly, but since I'm a woman, I obviously don't know what being a man feels like. But according to several statistics, men are more likely to be victims of murder, aggravated assault, and even robbery. The majority of perps are strangers. But everywhere I see, it's always women being afraid to go out at night, clutching keys, not tying their hair in a ponytail etc.

I understand that we women are scared due to the physical strength and size difference between males and females but since men are the majority of violent crime victims, shouldn't they be more afraid? But all I see is men going out without even a hint of their safety.

There's also the expectation that when a man and woman go anywhere together, the man has to sacrifice his life for his woman/girlfriend/wife/female friend.

This actually happened to me, I (19F), my boyfriend (19M) and our friend (18F) were walking back home at night, and a male thief tried to grab our friends phone. My boyfriend immediately pushed him and was able to beat him but the thief ran away.

So, I guess my question is, why aren't men more afraid? And if they are, is it because they don't show it? Is it because they don't know they are majorly victims?
